So it's going to be one or the other... I've not had a Macbook Pro in years, using an iMac for the past few years.

There is a relatively small $300 difference between the 14" Pro Max and 16" Pro Max. Each configuration will have 32MB Ram and a 1TB SSD.

Once in a while I'll use Affinity Photo, ON1 RAW - and Final Cut Pro.
But mainly it's about class work, Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, etc.

Would love to know which one you recommend.
Thanks

Well with 32mb ram you won’t be running any of those ?

for me I’d go 14. I don’t like big laptops, I like the mobility of switching rooms and areas. But any big project it will be connected to a 32in monitor anyway.

This more or less mimics my needs.

70% writing, 20% web designing, 10% graphic designing for all purposes.

I am using a MacBook Air 2017, fir for all of these jobs. Little slouch sometimes, but nothing like "I could go have coffee and come back".

I am thinking that the display on the new 16" will be the single-largest improvement for me. I will not be going out and about with the computer now, I have no real need for a laptop now.

The iMac 24" is perfectly suited to my requirements, in that context. Absolutely. I might have to get an uninterrupted power supply system for the iMac, that's it. Other than that, it is incredibly well-suited to my requirements of a large screen wherein I can have my content on the one side and the research and reference material side-by-side in split screen or otherwise.

HOWEVER

That iMac does not have the XDR quality!

I can certainly make do without ProMotion, since I am not an eternal scroller. I will mostly be typing or designing elements. But, the XDR quality will certainly trounce the iMac display quality, yes?

That is the conundrum I am in.

Everything else is manageable perfectly. I do not need super-speed Thunderbolt 4. The iMac gives me 4 USB-C form factor ports, they are adequate for me.

It just boils down to the new display on the MacBooks that is making me lean towards the 16".

The base 16" (10 core, 16 core, 16 GB, 512 GB) is at about USD 3250 in my country.
The iMac configured with 8 core, 8 core, 16 GB, 512 GB and Magic Trackpad is about USD 2500.

The only thing that makes me think about the 16" is the XDR display that I know I would appreciate. The cost of that display, lower resolution than the iMac, is about USD 750 that is a bitter pill I am thinking about.

How much worse might the display on the iMac be, in comparison with the Liquid Retina XDR on the MacBook Pro 16?

Any thoughts, anyone?
