I purchased the series 6 gold SS with Milanese loop band. I've owned 2 iterations of the Milanese loop and I noticed that this new version seems to be more stiff. It keep developing kinks and needs to be flattened repeatedly. Is anyone else having this problem? I feel like the Milanese loop decreases in quality every year.

I just picked up the graphite loop myself and it's super stiff. There are several kinks in it straight from the box. I am going to let it sit, I guess, and see if they loosen up, but I am pretty unenthused with this for the price. I had the silver ML from when it was first introduced and it was much smoother than this.

This is my first Milanese loop and I didn’t realize they weren’t all like this. I had kinks right out of the box, and they can be pressed out, but they form again pretty quickly. Wondering if it will loosen up in time.

The only thing I can think of, is if the Milanese loop has been stored in a box in a cold environment for quite some time and it needs time to ‘settle in’? I would probably try wearing it for a day or so and see if it conforms better.

Hopefully Apple didn’t change anything with the band structure on how it was made.

Thanks, that's my hope, too. Or maybe my first one was a little scratchy to start and I just remember it being comfortable as it was later, haha. My boyfriend had a third party ML, though, and this one reminds me more of that than my Apple one. But I guess I will see how it turns out.

Both the gold and graphite loops have a coating over the stainless steel that is not present on the silver loop. Maybe that’s contributing to the kinks? I have only ever had the space black version so I can’t compare to the silver. The black loop does develop small kinks, but they are easily smoothed out with a little pressure. Is is also a coated band.

Hello,

I just got the S6 graphite milanese loop and I am also very dissapointed with it's stiffness. Here is a photo comparing to the S2 black milanese loop:

Also here is a photo of me wearing it on day 1:

If I press it it gets down a bit but it's nothing close to the S2. I posted it on Reddit and here is an example of a S5 and S6 watches with milanese loop without my issue:

I don't know what to do :(

I tried the Graphite Milanese and it was similar (edit: to the stiff ones, had many kinks). Although, it felt a bit like an upgrade - a more hefty band.

It was similar to what? To the stiff ones or to the ones I put in the last picture?

So glad you started this thread! Had a 42mm silver milanese loop on my S3, and just got a 40mm S6 with a graphite milanese loop. The new one is definitely stiffer and gets kinks that can be smoothed out. I just thought it was due to the difference between the silver and graphite.

Same here. In comparison with a third-party ML the OEM Graphite seems very stiff and not as smooth. Since it's my first Apple ML I am a little disappointed. Those kinks make it even harder to swap bands/take of the watch without scratching the watch itself…

That gap seems really large between the bands in the photo with you wearing the watch.

Mine has gotten much more comfortable, and I have only worn it a few times. It's definitely not as rigid as it was when it arrived and I am happy with it now. No more kinks in it, either.

So bsmsam, in the beginning you had the stiff feeling and the kinks and now they have vanished? Do you remember how many days passed by and the kings/stiffness went away? Do you have a previous ML to compare it to this one (after the first days have passed)?

My graphite was a little stiffer than the black one I'd not long bought. Feels the same now, eases the more you wear it I guess.

Maybe this is the reason why they are cheaper that last years Milanese bands.

Here is my take:

It’s the same 316 L stainless, the properties haven’t changed, but I’m curious if Apple tightened the woven strands through the manufacturing process Where the band is not as fluid as the original Milanese loop was. There really is no other explanation, being they haven’t changed the metal, and 316L is just one grade of standard stainless that is uniform in thousands of different products.

IMHO not the raw material is relevent here (316L) but the manufacturing process. I can get a 316L milanese band for 4,99$ .

Sure, which will rust and kink because it’s cheaply manufactured. And as I said, 316L is only one grade Of stainless, there’s not multiple grades of 316l.

I totally agree with you. In my wildest dreams I would never get that cheap Chinese knockoff stuff from ebay. A friend of mine made fun of me, that I paid so much for an original milanese band from apple. Months later he complained, that his knockoff chinese band got tangled up with the cuff of his shirt.

It seems like Apple tighten the weave, but were there complaints/issues with the prior weave? My original milanese still looks and works great. Not too stiff, not too loose.

I probably wore it around 3 days and it was feeling better. I had the first version of the silver ML and I honestly don’t remember if that one started the same way or not, but I don’t think it did. I still think this one is more stiff compared to the original ML, but it’s also newer and a different color. The kinks are gone, though, and it’s comfortable, which is all I cared about.
