I have a Early 2009 Mini and I want to partition the WD 500GB hard drive on it.
Use 250GB for OS X 10.5.8 to run Safari, Final Cut Pro 7, Aperture 3, CS5 Master Collection, HandBrake, and etc. Use the other 250GB for Leopard Server.

Is this possible? And is it practical?

Or should I just buy the new Mini Snow Leopard Server!
(REFURBISHED Mini Server $1,045.00 or NEW Mini Server $1,200.00)

It will not cost me anything but time to do the partition.

The Mini's spec's are:
Mac OS X 10.5.8
2.0GHz (P7350) Intel Core 2 Duo processor
2.5 " WD Scorpio Black 500GB 7200RPM 16MB cache SATA 3.0GB
4GB (2×2GB) 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M using 256MB shared DDR3 SDRAM
3MB on-chip L2 cache
1.07GHz front side bus

I would upgrade to Snow Leopard, put an 8GB (2x4GB) RAM upgrade in the machine, then wait for Lion. Lion Server is pretty cheap, so unless you already have a copy of Leopard Server, this would probably be the way to go.

A 2009/2010 Mini Server isn't going to be much faster.

If you really want to you can swap out the optical drive for another hard drive.

go with the free idea . see how it runs.

if it needs ram try 1 4gb stick along with your 2gb stick

use thankspop for 10 % off . 39 minus 3.9 = 35 bucks

what you want to do should work with your smaller mini. the 2010 server is not a big improvement.

if you want to improve a lot buy a 2011 macbook pro 13 inch cost is close to the server and it is a lot faster.

New Mini Server or Upgrade Mini 2.0GHz

Thanks for the response.

I'll definitely upgrade the Mini I have. To Do List:
Snow Leopard Server
2 X 4GB Samsung Memory Sticks

Should I upgrade the Graphics?

Do I need to partition the WD HD?

I'm a first timer to running a server.
