I have done som searching and cant find anything...

can you use the FM Radio with Nike+? or are you still limited to playlists?

its awesome that the sensor is built in now. that rocks!

the built-in pedometer is interesting at most... doesnt seem it could be nearly as accurate as the shoe sensor for Nike+... but I guess thats not really the intent.

The sensor is NOT built in. The Pedometer was apple Cheap @$$ way of getting out of installing the sensor.....for now.

I talked to apple and they said you need the nike+ adapter to use the pedometer...

From the photos I've seen, it looks like there is an updated version of the Nike+ app on the nano. Am I correct, and does anyone know if this will be available on the previous gen nano?

Well. Regardless of the sensor issue...

Can you use the radio with Nike+. This would be the biggest thing for me!

Replied in another thread, but thought I'd post her as well

There is still some question on whether or not the 5th gen iPod nano has the Nike+ receiver built into the device. Mine arrives today so I'll be able to update this thread.

From my readings though, it looks like you still need to plug the Nike+ receiver into the bottom of the device and link with the sensor. If that's the case, there is no bluetooth/wireless chip within the new nano.

If you read the new Nike+ Apple manual, it makes reference to a heart rate monitor. I want to see if Nike is going to announce this today.

I think it has a pedometer built in but not the receiver that works with the shoe sensor, right? That is, although it's syncing with nike+, it's using a different technology than previous nike+ devices. I think.

There seems to be alot of confusion, so let me clarify everything for everyone. The built in pedometer is basically an application that apple has loaded into the Nano that uses the accelerometer to count the movement of the person using the nano. This is a fairly inaccurate way to count your steps, but for apple, it is a cheap way to avoid having to install the wireless sensor that is needed for the tradition and highly accurate Nike+ shoe sensor.

In order to continue using your shoe sensor you will still have to plug in you add-on reciever to the bottom of the Nano.

Hope that helps everyone.

Everyone is correct. You still need the Nike+ receiver and shoe sensor.

I can only assume the heartrate monitor will work with the receiver you plug into the bottom.

You will also find that Nike is planning on putting gps units in the shoes. Just google and you'll see all the rumors about it.

The main question still remains. Can you use the radio with Nike+?? This is a huge selling factor for me. I'll get one if this is the case. I only use my nano for running. Have found myself running with the nano for Nike+ and my 3GS for iheart radio. Would love it if I could use nano to listen to the local morning shows while running.

I just picked up 1 new nano 5G at the apple store in Santa Monica today. When I was about to purchase the Nike Receiver and Sensor they told me not to buy it but to buy the sensor only as the receiver is now built it in the 5G nano. Ill let you know when I test it today/tomorrow if its true.

I wish it was true, but I think they were wrong because according to this...
"Grab your iPod nano, your Nike+ shoes, and the Nike + iPod Sport Kit (available separately). Put the sensor in the built-in pocket just under the insole. Then connect the receiver to your iPod nano. The sensor tracks your run, then sends the data to your iPod nano."

This was from the information on the new nano...

They were wrong. I have all the items listed above.
You indeed can use the built in pedometer alone instead of buying Nike+ but the built in one only tells you your "steps taken".
I wanted to know my actual distance traveled so I bought Nike+. For $30 I'd say its worth it.

And to the OP:
WHen using Nike+ your options for workout music are:
.Now Playing
.Playlists
.Podcasts
.Audio Books
.Shuffle Songs
.None
