Been looking at this tablet for the wife. Hope it comes in July like last year. She's an avid reader, and I think she'll like the android os and she can put both kindle and nook apps. Hope it has lte too. Anyone know anything?

Eagerly waiting to see what they do with the Nexus 7 this year, too. I think I'm ready to give the Android tablet experience a try...

I'm tempted to wait, too, to see what the iPad Mini 2 brings.

If Apple can lower the price, give it Retina without compromising battery life or size/weight, I may be tempted.

As I said before, iOS on the iPad is a far better experience than iOS on an iPhone. Just wish they did something with the keyboard for iOS 7, though...

It basically comes down to the Nexus 7 or the iPad Mini 2. I'm ready for a smaller tablet.

I would say either July (along with Android 4.3 if that's still planned) or in the fall (with the new Nexus device(s) and Key Lime Pie).

I'll definitely be jumping on the new N7 if the rumors of S800, 1080p, and $230 price point hold true.

I have a Mini with cellular. I would go for the new n7 as well if specs pan out instead of getting a Mini 2 which ain't going to be that price. :)

If Google sells the new Nexus 7 for $230 and Apple brings the price of the iPad Mini 2 to a lower point (say, $299 maybe?) then Google will be in some trouble.

I really hope for the latter price point. $329 for two year old specs just doesn't cut it.

If the updated Nexus 7 has another low price point, I'd be really tempted and would definitely recommend it over an iPad Mini.

If you buy on specs, Apple isn't for you in any product category. You can get better specs cheaper but you know that.

Why would Apple reduce price? It's not like Nexus 7 is making huge strides against the iPad Mini mindshare. They don't have a history of sacrificing margin for market share either that I know of. Not that I would mind your scenario playing out because I plan to buy the next Mini or the next Nexus in any event.

Apple products sometimes lower the price point after the first year. Look at the rMBP. There are also rumors of a price drop when the Mini 2 rolls around.

My best guess is July. If they keep the price point the same and improve the battery and screen I'll probably grab one. I am more interested in seeing the next iPad though to be honest, I've been using an iPad 2 and a Nexus 7 daily and for my needs the iPad usually takes the cake.

The iPad Mini Duex won't have retina. Too many issues to overcome, including a fire back in Feb to one of LG Displays subcontracted foundries. Additionally, while Apple could increase the next iPad mini’s resolution to somewhere in between the 1024-by-768 panel on the current model and the 2,048-by-1,536 panel on the full-size iPad, doing so would fragment the platform by introducing a new screen resolution.

By keeping both the 9.7-inch and 7.9-inch device’s resolution same, programmers won’t have to do extra work as existing Retina iPad builds will run just fine on an iPad mini 2, assuming they keep the current display.

And then there is the additional cost of using LTPS (Low-Temperature Polysilicon) screens for the iPad mini 2 (same display tech used in the iPhone 5.)

All this leads me to believe Apple won't mess with upgrading the display until 2014. Maybe we will get an iPad Mini S and an iPhone 5S announcement at the same time. Nothing more than spec bumps for both.
