... I mean new, like in green; Switching from PC to Mac, and will need all the help I can get from you young experts here... my new 24" iMac is on its way, should arrive Feb 8... a young friend volunteered to make a house call to help me with the transfer from my PC to my Mac. Any advance warnings and advice are welcome and appreciated. Thanks.

Congrats and welcome to MacRumors and the Apple World!

Nothing special to say about data transfer but make sure you won't delete any data from the PC until you have everything transferred and working in your iMac. Buying an external hard drive for backups isn't a bad idea either

P.S. Check out my friends e-book on my signature :p

good luck with the transition... you tube has a lot of good videos and look at the apple site...

Plus you never have to worry about viruses, unless you partition your HD and put Windows on it.

No more long scans with virus programs, they just don't exist. That is the greatest feature of Mac OS X!

A New Old Fella Here

... I mean new, like in green. I'm switching fro PC to Mac (iMac), I have a new 14" iMac on the way, and will need all the help I can get. Any advice, or warnings? Thanks.

A 14" iMac, do they even exist?

And welcome old man.

He must mean a 24", puzzle girl. :)

All I can suggest for now is to read through all the guides on MR (at the top of the forums). Read the ones in Mac OSX and Mac Basics. And when you run into a problem after you get your iMac, come here for help. FYI, there is no cut (just copy and paste) in the Mac OS like in Windows. Also, you can't delete single or multiple items in trash. You have to empty the whole thing, until you learn how to use Terminal. It's not hard.

Welcome aboard! Just read the forums, get involved, and when you run into problems, search a bit first and if you need to post a new thread, just be as clear, concise, and complete as you can with your description of the problem or question. Thousands of years of combined expertise reside here.

Ignore the juveniles. :p

Oh, and with that handle, you'll enjoy the attention from the UK members. :D

There's a 24" version? I didn't see this in store, just the 21.5 and 27 versions... Or am I being stupid, which is very likely :p

Oh and welcome, I'm new like you, to both iMac, and the forum. :apple:
