Tried sending an email to someone in my company today only to find that there is no address book in the new Outlook for macOS. Am I overlooking it?

MS is really taking the piss on Outlook. I don't have any issues adding names/email addys to Outlook's address book (if you can call it that), but yesterday I noticed that one of my add-ins was missing, then noticed that you can't add any add-ins at all (the option is grayed out). Were it not for the fact that the company I work for is all-in on MS products like Outlook, Teams and OneNote, I would remove all of them from my Mac, as they all are horrible products.

The macOS versions definitely have less functionality than Windows versions. Not surprised considering it's Microsoft.

Are you freaking kidding me MSFT?? "Modern" Email client with no support for looking names up from the company address book. ???

You're right, the seem to have completely eliminated the address book from the "New Outlook". The only thing left are the utterly useless and pointless contacts with no way to search a corporate address book or add an external LDAP/AD address book source. I hadn't even noticed that yet because I switched back immediately once I noticed that local rules are no longer supported, which means that there is no longer a way to suppress notifications for specific delegate or shared accounts.

Great job, Microsoft. Great job!

Yeah…you might be better off using the Outlook web portal as much as you can.
Even the new web portal doesn't support the address book. Either that or I couldn't find it. My county government just migrated things to Outlook, so we got a new webmail interface. I couldn't find it. Ridiculous!

Hopefully it's just temporary and they add it in the future. I have 900 firefighters that there is no way I can figure out their email addresses without the county address book. Likewise, we have >20,000 employees in my health system. As an administrator, I have to email new contacts all the time. Can't do that without the health system's address book.

Sounds like I'll continue using my Windows computer for business-related things. :( Much prefer macOS over Windows!

The outlook Mac client has been going through some major growing pains in the past year or so, the "new" version looks pretty but it is missing so much functionality that its not much good for users who rely on deeper integrations and the features present in the "old" version (which is where the real value lies).

I have to use Parallels to run the Windows version occasionally when I need to do things the web version can't (eg: bulk email and contact admin). I open the Mac client now and again just to see what is new. I'll consider using it when it doesn't need to bump me out to the web to access features that should be in the desktop client eg: Todo's, Notes, Moca.

The web version is reliable, works with plug-ins and the Contacts feature is excellent (for my use) - it is almost as good as the old People Hub on Windows Phone, but not quite; if they add contact tagging in OneDrive photos then it will be damn close.

I'd really like to see MS bring Contacts into the iOS Outlook app, Apple's Contacts apps on Mac & iOS are terrible.

Which Outlook version are you running? I've got 16.49 and can lookup company email addresses and can see those that I saved locally in Contacts. Clicking on someone's name shows their contact details. I don't think that there is a browsable list but that would be tough with 30K employees.

@Tagbert I think it's only a problem when you use the "new" Outlook

The "New" Outlook is missing a LOT of functionality from the "old" version (which is the current shipping version), particularly if you're in a corporate environment. Unfortunately, the new Outlook also offers some nice enhancements that I really like, particularly in the display of conversations in the email source list.

The web version of Outlook is absolutely dreadful if you ask me.

There's really no good "fix" for anything Outlook-related until next year when they roll out yet another complete re-tooling of Outlook on all platforms. Supposedly all platforms will have feature parity. I'll believe that when I see it, though.

I'm on Outlook 16.51.2106... via the Beta channel. My iCloud address book has loaded and is editable (and the changes show up in my native Contacts app)—but there NO auto-fill of those contacts when composing Mail; cannot address emails by typing someone's name or email. Is it working for anyone else?

That's in New Outlook. If I toggle that off, "old" Outlook lists none of my iCloud contacts at all.

The only thing "new" about the "New Outlook" is the abundance of things that don't work. I had the same problem at first, but eventually it started auto-filling after I manually typed the names at least once. It's ridiculous. And I'm using the Enterprise level Office 365 service.

Yes. Actually, I just searched for a thread like this to see if anyone has a solve for this. Same exact issue: iCloud address book is there in "People" but cannot use it in Mail. it also seems like each email account offers different autofill addresses for composing emails, and it's driving me INSANE. Who uses different address books for different accounts? HELP!
