New owner El Capitan

I have been a member here for some time and finally decided to put a toe in the water having long admired Apple equipment and thinking it to be aspiring to the higher echelons of computing. Which I have been actively involved in since the very early 90's

I run a professionally built hackintosh which uses a Dell 5k monitor and El Capitain 10.11.5 my first impressions are, I am bitterly disappointed, I have never used an operating system with so many bugs.

The machine constantly suffers with freezing issues, I have apple keyboard & trackerpad both of which have to be hard wired because there is bluetooth issues, as in,there isnt any.

I have to boot from the bootloader first, disabling the video card as otherwise no signal is received and my monitor just sleeps (even though that facility is off) states there is no signal from the computer.

I have downloaded VLC but it does not run any videos which I guess is not suprising but it does seem to run the audio side of things but not video itself. Having said that the rubbishy quick time does run.

My impressions; I think El Capitain is total rubbish and I cannot comprehend why apple are not sorting it out. Am I dumping my windows machine anytime soon, no, it leaves my Mac dead in the water, and so do my Linux distros.

If something does not happen soon I will format never to return to apple again I feel its been a complete waste of my money to be honest. If anyone wishes to comment please do.

and it couldnt be due to you running on hardware it was never designed, built or supported to run on?

If you want to run a Mac, do so, running on odd hardware then complaining stuff doesnt work?? Lol just return it to your "professional hackintosh" source and get them to sort it, THAT is where you need to complain.

Dude ,you running it on wrong machine !!! just buy a Mac machine and then we can talk !! hackintosh is not the best way to enjoy in apple world !! good luck

And this coming from a former Hackintosh user. Pre-iPad, I had a Dell Mini 9 Hackintosh, and compared to the legit Macbook Pro I had at the same time, night and day. Now, the Hackintosh ran fairly well (was really close to at the time Macbook Air re: hardware similarities), but it was never close to same experience as the MBP. Was nice for taking to the local coffee shop or weekend get-aways, but as a serious piece of equipment... too many hoops to jump through to get things working, updating software, etc.

Once I got an iPad 3, Hackintosh could not compete with that re: battery life, weight, speed.

Oh dear, this is not a rubbish machine like you are thinking, and probably had.The hardware is far in excess of the shop bought equipment spec and is professionally built, its already very well documented right across the internet that OS is flawed by people WITH shop spec macs and is evident by the amount updates that have been produced to try and correct it. This is not a laptop DUDES!!!

I also note you joined this site 5 years after me !! I was expecting some sensible answers not purist rubbish.

Everything you have said looks like a driver issue, of course Apple only produces drivers for their own hardware but whatever. You don't "own" El Capitan, you are illegally running it on specialist (ie non-Apple), hardware, then complaining it doesn't work...

I've got EC running on 3 machines, all flawlessly so I call that your issues are down to your hardware.

Purist? Not sure hackintosh discussion is even allowed by the site terms...

and wasted money? Yes! But you didn't give any of it to Apple so how can they be liable?

You have to understand that to own a Hackintosh, professionally built or not, you must accept the risk of things breaking. El Capitan has not had any of the issues you described on my genuine Apple hardware.

No offense, I'd switch that DELL to Win7 or 10 and try to get a refurbished Mac that can handle ElCap and soon Sierra if I'd were you.

no offense, each hackintosh has a smaller or larger problem .... as it said in the previous post only correct solution is to buy a genuine iMac if you want to have a desktop computer with el capitan, and then you'll realize that hackintosh is not the right solution !! that OS X does not have these problems !!

I run a professionally built (by Apple) 27" 5K iMac and it runs El Capital flawlessly. I have had my iMac for 6 months now and have never had a single hang whatsoever. I've owned dozens of Macs of all form factors over the years and have had the same trouble-free experience with all of the Apple hardware and OS versions along the way. I have rebooted a total of two times in 6 months with my current iMac (only to apply security updates).

My bluetooth Apple wireless keyboard and mouse, a Logitech wireless mouse, and a wired Logitech mouse are used with the Mac regularly and reliably.

My iMac with it's Fusion drive boots within about 12 seconds and is ready to login.

I have over 30 years of computer experience and currently use and support Mac OS, Windows 7/10, and Linux, both professionally and at home. Mac OS El Capitan is rock solid for me and has never given me a single problem on the 5 Macs I use personally and dozens of others that I support currently.

If you are having such problems with your hackintosh then don't blame an OS that is not designed to run on your hardware. Instead just move on to a Linux distro that will likely run exceptionally well on the hardware.
