iPad Pro New owner of iPad pro 11

Hi

Just got an iPad pro 11 256gb space grey, I haven't played around with it much yet, not got a stylus to use with it, so am picking up an apple pencil 2nd gen tomorrow. Just wanted to ask a few questions.

1. Is the apple pencil ok to use as a general stylus to navigate menus and general browsing

2. I have the Otterbox Symmetry 360 case, which offers all round protection, whats the general consensus on having a screen protector, I'm quite careful and have never scratched a screen before.

3. What apps are good for sketching/drawing using the apple pencil.

4. I think I read you can have two apps opened and displayed at once on the iPad pros, how do i do this?

1. Yes. Just stick around and you can use it as a pseudo mouse. It even supports long tap, meaning that you can make a better selection than your finger does.

2. With that case, better have a screen protector that does not use adhesive materials. You do not want to leave marks when you want to sell your iPad Pro later on for an upgrade or something. I had bad experience using that case cause front cover leaves two super obvious stripes across the entire screen when I carry my iPad around. Same for more expensive smart folio or almost any other case with similar front covers.

3. Notability? I never used that app before though. But it look pretty cool to take notes. Featured on App Store I believe a few times already. Apple’s own notes app is also a decent light weight alternative. It can even allow you to start a scribble from lock screen, which I doubt notability can do.

Bonus: if your iPhone runs iOS 12, you can copy your text from iPhone and past it on iPad. Works like magic. iPad keyboard also has a paste key on top of your keyboard. You may also use that one.

Thanks very much any particular protector I should go for that works well with apple pencil, I see a lot had issues with screen protectors and the new pros with regards to touch sensitivity, seem's like a minefield.

Yeah. I have heard about this. Unfortunately, besides asking forum members, pretty much all you can do is to buy one, apply it, and try it out. And hopefully the bad protector can be removed easily if you don’t want it.

I don’t use screen protectors because i don’t like the feeling of typing on a layer different than the front panel glass. It feels bad.

For split view, one word of caution: you need to open both apps you want to do split view once. Then you can use docks to get the job done. This will create an icon on the right hand side of the dock for you to drag app icon for split view. I wish apple could have a launcher on iPad or something, which makes a lot of sense for multitasking on iPad.

Is it a rare problem, as Apple have been selling cases with the fold magnetic front cover for ages.

I have confidence that this is not a rare problem. The Catch is, this problem occurs more for people who carries their iPad around with the case, inside a backpack or something. The design is to give users a fixed position stand so that they may be able to use iPad in a more comfortable or more laptop like position. Rather than going for the back, they go for the front, which also makes opening the front cover a bit easier. Unfortunately, because of the folding feature, there has to be somewhere to integrate flexible materials, rubber or something, to make it work. The stripe is mainly caused by those materials.
I am also worried that those stripes will eventually be the iPad screen weak point where those areas tend to suffer permanent damage quicker after a year or so. That’s one major reason why I don’t buy those cases, but instead try to get some form of carry bag for MacBook or something else for protection.

Apple Notes, GoodNotes, Notability are good apps for brainstorming and taking notes. ProCreate is a good app for drawing. Concepts is another good one for drawing. Affinity Designer I believe is another good one.

I have used only GoodNotes, Apple Notes and ProCreate so I can comment only on them. However I think that the others mentioned have their merits as well.

I had the impression that you were suggesting the magnetic parts in the case are causing some issue and effecting the screen.

I will only use my iPad at home.

I am sorry for that. The magnetic part won’t leave those stripes. Only the front cover Do. If you mainly use iPad at home, then this is not a problem.

Tayasui Sketches (paid version is Sketches Pro) is worth a try for drawing/sketching. It’s much simpler than Procreate.

I use iCarez matte screen protectors on all my iPads because I hate glare and fingerprints.

I never purchased any screen protector for any of my equipment, ever. Though I wanted to try "Paperlike" for my iPP 12.9 which arrived and I installed yesterday. I can't recommend it enough. It takes writing/drawing on the iPad to a new level.

I don't really draw much. Though I would highly recommend GoodNotes for note taking, PDFexpert for highlighting, editing, signing PDF documents.

Also, I used the smart cover for my iPP, stripes started appearing on the screen after some time. I switched to Smart Keyboard Folio, no more stripes. That's because the new keyboard doesn't face down to pick up dirt like the smart cover does.

I have to second this screen protector, especially if you're gonna do a lot of writing. I have loved writing on mine so much more since I switched my glass screen protector to the iCarez matte. Yeah it changes the overall screen "look," because of that matte finish, but writing on it is like writing on paper.

If you aren't worried about that, I had a glass protector before that worked really well. I can't remember the brand, but I just check Amazon reviews. I've had great luck with those on all my iPads/iPhones.
