New Photo App is already running?

Hello Folks!

Now I'm OSX 10.10 Yosemite.

I uninstalled iPhoto, and then, appeared Photos settings in Settings > iCloud screen.

This is a vestige of new Photos app that will replace iPhoto and Aperture?

The settings are here, even without iPhoto. How can I use them to view and share Photos from iCloud?

How did you uninstall iPhoto? Simply throwing it in the trash and emptying it isn't going to get rid of all the embedded files iPhoto uses in the system. iCloud depends on iPhoto still for photo stream. Note: I have seen a process called iCloud Photos in Activity Monitor, but in DP 3 it was just a renamed iPhoto executable for uploading.

Yes, I did this. I threw iPhoto in the trash and emptied it.

So without iPhoto, even still with these options in Photos, Is there no way to Stream or Share, as these settings provides?

Are these settings useless?

Maybe OSX should vanish with these options, new icon in settings and new name "Photos" after deleted iPhoto, isn't it?

Observe that in the second screen shot the name of screen is iCloud Photo Options. I stay curious.

It is not up and running. It will be a new app, which hasn't been released and won't be until next year.

Might as well keep using iPhoto for now.

These are part of the iCloud settings/Photo Stream, regardless if you have iPhoto or Aperture installed on the Mac. For example, you can use an iPhone to take pictures and store them on an iCloud account without having a Mac involved.

The checkbox that you referring to is what your Mac will do when it finds pictures in that iCloud account. In other words (depending on the settings), if it's checked, your Mac will download a copy. If not, then the Mac ignores it.

Since you trashed iPhoto, viewing photos stored on your iCloud account is not as straightforward.


Consider these simplified scenarios:
I can trash the Mail.app from my Applications folder, but the mail files themselves, iCloud System Preferences, and various system components will still contain references to mail. It's possible to look at the individual email messages without Mail.app, but it's cumbersome.
