Dear all

I've just updated El Capitan on 13" MBP early 2011, 4GB Ram, 256GB SSD.

Now that it has updated my iPhoto Library to Photos, the app works fine, but hits about 200% CPU usage with the fan going like mad to keep it cool. When I navigate away from the app, but leave it open, it still hogs about 70%.

Is this normal?
Will it settle down, or is this just what you get with a new app on 'old' hardware?

Thanks

Happened to me too. It'll settle down though. My guess is that it's re-generating thumbnails and caches.

I am very interested in your CPU, which is capable to double its performance without making any changes. :p (joking)

Try to give it a little bit more time. I didn't see such crazy action when I was upgrading iPhoto library to photos library.

If it continues driving fans crazy, consider moving all photos out of library and create a new library to import.
