Did anyone notice that the pricing for the refurb Nanos has changed? I'm not too sure what the 1 and 2 Gigs were running at before, but the 4 Gigs were running at $219 I believe... now they're running at $169.

I've been wanting to pick up a Nano for the Nike+ thing, but maybe this is evidence of getting rid of as many as they can before they put out a version that doesn't scratch as much???

it's a nano (the 'mini' version of an iPod) that has been refurbished by Apple - IE: someone returned their nano or got a replacement because of problems, Apple fixed these problems, and now sells them back to users at a discounted price. they do so with all of their products - you can see them here.

Nice find.

If I get your drift, you mean, "How can something that has essentially no moving parts be refurbished?" Correct?

Well thats kind of what i was thinking...?

Nanos have also come down in price in the UK refurb store. They used to be better value off Amazon.co.uk but not any more. 2GB is now £83.

Good value - unless of course there are some bigger ones in the wings ;)

Video iPods still the same price though :(

The click wheel is a moving part. It clicks, which means it moves. Also, just because the hard drive doesn't move (b/c it is flash based) doesn't mean that it couldn't be broken. It probably doesn't cost Apple much to fix a broken flash drive or repair a frayed wire or something small and they essentially get to sell the same iPod twice (albeit the second time is at a discount).

Correct me if I don't speaketh the truth.

Have you ever used an iPod :p The clicking sound is generated through the speaker/earphones. The click wheel doesn't actully move...it's touch sensative. I think the only iPod that had a moving scroll wheel was the 1G

Have YOU ever used an iPod. The click wheel physically CLICKS. Though I would hardly count that as a "moving" part in the normal sense.

Um... no. They used to. Now it's a touch pad. The click, as mentioned, is generated by the iPod's internal speaker and can be shut off.

I suspect that most "refurbished" Nanos had nothing wrong with them; they were returned by users who hadn't fully read the directions.

there were directions?
*frantically looking around desk area
yea right-i don't believe you
i thought nano's were made for dummies!

ok i think what he's referring to, and click is the wrong word which is why all teh confusion, is that the while the wheel itself doesn't move, the ipod itself has five buttons behind the click wheel which you physically depress.

I'm just clarifying, not suggessting that it is a moving or no moving part.

No, the actual click wheel...CLICKS when you press it. It makes a "click" sound when my iPod is OFF and has NO POWER. Again, I don't consider this a "moving" part. I'm proving this right now on a 4GB black Nano and a 60GB Black iPod video.

Do you have a video to back that up?

...just kidding - I know what you meant :p

refurb nano!!!!

Just ordered my refurb nano. Went with the 2GB black. I live in London where it's best to have a discreet player. I know this because I have been mugged before and it's not fun.
I know it's only 2GB, but there was a time in my life that I used to head to school with one CD in my discman and would happily listen to it all day whilst tip-toeing between classes to prevent "Achtung Baby" from skipping. So I think I'll have enough songs in a slick, small convenient little package. I also feel that the price was so damn cheap (83 pounds!) that eventually when apple introduces a phone (and I will buy it that day!) that I wont feel like I just sunk a hefty chunk of change into something I will never use again.
Video... For me, there is no point in having video playback, as I would never use it on public transport or when I am walking about.
I have a PSP and my 12" PowerBook for out-of-town journeys (trains, planes, hotels etc...) and that's when I enjoy my vids and games. I have PSP sync for my mac and it's a genius little program thats integrated with itunes, iphoto etc... Great little product and it was only like fifteen US... (so nothing.)
It's not like we're learning anything new here. Just another mac user excited about his next toy.
Cheers,
TJ Campbell

Yeah the whole iPod line has dropped price. pretty good deal if your in season for a new well refurbished iPod.. but this does mean new updates

Does the offer of buying a Mac and getting around 170 dollars/160 euro off any ipod still apply if you buy a refurb one?

I have a 15g second gen ipod and have been running with it but am scared to death that the jarring may cause some harm and then I will DIE on my long car trips... this fear gave me the perfect reason to go out and buy a refurbed nano (2gb, black)...oh and a nike+ sport kit too. :D

I bought my Airport Express refurbed almost a year ago and it works like a dream. Refurbed is the way to go when you are on a budget.
