As title suggests I purchased a new Imac today (nov. 9th). Unwrapped it and looked at my restore disks and low and behold they are for 10.4.10. I thought well i guess that means i need to load leopard with the drop in. But it isn't to be found in all of the box.

Anyone else have this happen? if so how was it resolved? I live over an hour away from the apple store so driving back isn't the best option. Also don't think i should have to wait for a disk to get mailed to me as the sales person said "your computer will be running leopard (out of the box) like this one." referring to a floor model.

Guess i will have to wait until tomorrow morning to find out what they can do about this.

If you're not willing to drive to the store and don't want to wait for it to be mailed to you, I don't see anything that will work.

I can't see them driving to your location to deliver it, it's the weekend so overnighting it is out, and I can't see them letting you download it.

I think driving back to the store is not your best option, it's your only option. I would definately want something for the trouble.

Ya i realize that isn't giving them much to work with. I guess mail is an option but I was thinking that i could see if they could work out getting me a copy from a local reseller. i am just more annoyed that it was a given that leopard was at least in the box. In hindsight i should have checked myself but...it isn't my job really and two weeks after release even more so.

I'm with ya on that. You should be able to take the sales person's statement as a fact. You were told it would be running Leopard right out of the box.

I would probably be a little upset myself. If I had to drive back to the store, I would without a doubt ask to be compensated, either through goods, on-line store credits, or my personal favorite - CASH!

Well gas alone will be around $20 and my time shouldn't be free either. Mostly it is that i don't have time to fight through traffic to get back there. Forgot to mention that the main reason that mail won't work is that I going to be leaving this computer in non-technical hands for a bit and wanted to have it all set up for them by sunday.

I guess you are playing the role of sounding board tonight as I can't do anything about it until tomorrow morning...haha

I'm not a person that condons piracy. I thinks it's wrong and ultimately causes the cost of goods to be higher.

However, I'm not sure that if I were you I wouldn't torrent Leopard, get it installed and working. Call the Store so they know what the problem is and let them know you will be looking for the disc in the mail very soon.

Not saying that this would be what I would do, but I would think about it long and hard.

Although I should be the legitimate owner of leopard I will wait to have a disk in hand. I just don't like the idea of DLing my OS even in this case.

BTW check the long white box that housed the keyboard again, some people overlook the disk in there. That's where mine was.

or you could

You could take the entire thing back and tell them you said it would be running Leopard out of the box and it is not... give me one that does.

update

The store was not helpful at all. I explained that I had a long drive to get to the store so picking up a disk in person is not an option. I said that i was told it would be running leopard and that i bought it expecting everything to be up and going or at least with the drop in. The guy on the other end explained that all i could do was come in person or get it by mail which wouldn't be until tuesday at least.

I politely asked to speak to the manager. After holding for ~3 minutes (not bad) he came back on the phone and said the manager said the same thing. The manager couldn't even be bothered speaking to me themselves.

All in all i am still annoyed. I have to fax my receipt to them and they will mail a disk to me.

Any suggestions on who i can write to via email or snail mail to complain about the lack of drop in and, what i consider, to be the poor service i received afterwards. Because i didn't even get an apology. It was just a "some boxes didn't get the dvd put into them".

Check the box high and low. The two restore disks are in there which have 10.4.10 printed on them but nothing else. thanks though.

The guy on the phone said that the sales person was wrong and that the only systems running leopard pre-installed were the new macbooks. But i can't afford the time/gas to go back to sort this out. especially just to pick up a cd.

I thought it was reasonable to suggest going to my local reseller/authorized repair place (carbon computing) to get a disk but he said that wasn't possible.

Just curious to see which store you bought it at?

I bought my macbook from the Eatons Centre store a while back and it was DOA, so I got a replacement which also had issues, so I took it back for repair. When I got it back, I was trying to use it on the train on the way to school, but it wouldn't power on (it did when it was plugged in) so I took it back to the store. Apparently they had forgotten to hook something up inside, so I was given a 10% off card for my troubles. (Which I'll be putting towards my iMac in about a month!)

So the point of the story is, if you complain about it enough you might be able to get yourself a 10% off card too! (And hopefully you're copy of Leopard.)

You don't by any chance go to McMaster do you?

Got it from Yorkdale actually. Sounds like they did alright by you. And i am not a mcmaster student. Undergrad at Queen's and now am at Waterloo.

Happy Customer Again

So just got a call from the store. From the lead mac genius. She said that originally they got dropins for current stock and that subsequent deliveries were supposed to have them already inside.

Anyway she offered mailing me a copy or refunding the cost of Leopard to my CC so that i can buy it locally. I look the latter and am heading out to buy it retail now.

So I guess if you complain loud enough and to the right person (without being rude) you can get help and the situation can be remedied.

My faith has been restored and I am again a happy customer.
