Anyone notice the new Quicktime movies trailers page on apple.com? Features a bunch of HD movie trailers and new layout for all the good ole stuff there.

New quicktime trailers

--sorry if this is a repost, but I searched and didn't see anything

man, those trailers make my mouth water... GOD I wish my powerbook had enough power to view the 1080i trailer... but sadly its just 480p and sometimes 720p for me :(

this is where the QTpro full screen feature would be nice to have. oh well.

HD trailers are awesome. I was starting to wonder why Apple hadn't updated their HD gallery for a while. Now I know.

As nice as HD is, its on the opposite end of the spectrum from iPod videos. I'l like to see a series of Apple video podcasts with the latest movie trailers either by genre, studio, or some arbitary search parameter (like actor or director) or just all upcoming films. Trailers are only a few minutes anyway, so the files would be small enough. The content is free and already on Apple servers. Generating podcasts for each genre, studio, etc can't be that difficult for Apple. Finally, it fits in nicely with the New Music Tuesdays Podcast Apple already does and still sits near the top of the most popular podcasts list.

Once I get my hands on my own iPod with video, I'd subscribe to a movie trailer podcast for sure. If I see a trailer I like I can always go and get the HD version for a closer look. :D

Alternative resolutions for trailers

Maybe instead of the current sizes Apple Trailers should be in 320 X 240 (small, 5G iPod), 480 X 272 (medium, PSP), 640 X 480 (VGA), 1280 X 720 (HD 720p) and 1920 X 1080 (HD 1080i). For those asking why Apple should offer content for the PSP I say because Apple all ready works with SONY on other partnerships and the PSP is not direct competition to the iPod.

I am proud of myself

I actually started a thread for a novel news item, this makes me happy. Normally I post a thread, only to be soon after shot down by the thread police stating that I just didn't search well enough for coresponding thread.

Also, yea, the new trailers page is pretty sweet. Current and updated HD stuff is awesome :D

P.S. Does anyone know a way to download movies off Quicktime without having Pro?

(P.S.S. If you do have pro just go to the get info in QT, copy the movie link into your browser and it should come up in your web browser and you should be able to download easily with pro)

I do think that the iTunes Music Store should have an option of downloading iPod sized movie trailers without having to go for QT Pro. As for the PSP sized trailers, I can see that happening. Maybe not called "PSP size" but "small" would work, as long as it is mysteriously 480x272 for perfect PSP viewing. Then "medium" size would be normal online viewing size and "large" would be HD. Medium and Large would probably have several sizes like they do now, though, so that might be confusing.

If more and more trailers are going to be released in HD, eventually they will outnumber the regualar selection. At this point, each movie will be available in like 5-8 sizes. And for a movie like Harry Potter that has 2-3 different Trailer versions plus a teaser, that would mean a lot of buttons to pick the right trailer you want. I anticipate that Apple would have to streamline this a lot, maybe even trimming the regular (SD) trailers down to one option (PSP) plus iPod size and then HD. That would work. :D

Well it was a great find. I wouldn't have found it without the heads up.

At one point there was a hack that opened up the capability of saving the movies. I'm sure it's been patched by now as I couldn't find it. You should just spend the $29.99. It's worth it.
