Today, while I was looking on the internet for the last Apple's firmware for my Nano, I ran into this:

http://applediario.com/2008/09/27/rockbox-30-un-firmware-que-lleva-tu-ipod-a-su-maxima-expresion/

Talks about a free firmware that helps improve the basic functions of the
iPod and adds others, for my awe this firmware is accepted by Apple and users who have installed have many good things to say about.

Has anyone heard of Rockbox 3.0?

It's a very popular "version" of iPod Linux. It's not accepted or supported by apple; it only works on iPods up to the second gen nano and the Video.
