Man, I don't know... I'm on the fence about getting a slingbox. I hear such horror stories about their support and peeps devices dying like almost as soon as the warranty expires. And then there's the choosing between the Solo or the HD...I don't know if it's worth it or not for the extra cashola for the HD. I mean, I really would like to be able to have the ability to watch things when I'm on traveling and such, but I just don't know if I'd be better off with an Elgato or something. Plus...that's almost a copy of Omnigraffle to buy their slingplayer (I haven't bought the Omnigraffle app either yet!)...

It works pretty well on the computer and iPad/iPhone. Trying to mirror it to an ATV is kind of sketchy, which is why I was surprised when the op posted about AirPlay. I helped a friend set one up a couple of weeks ago. You really need a 2mb upload speed at the source to get anywhere near hd quality at the destination.

Sling sucks, they stopped working on the desktop app which now crashes constantly on my Mac mini running lion. I had the newer solo model and didn't have any problems with it but sold it last week after hearing about all the horror stories of the solos breaking after a year and sling not being very supportive of the issue.

I just got an eyetv HD and like it much better. The desktop software is way better, it's cheaper to get HD, the iOS app is better, universal and only 5 bucks instead of slings ridiculous 30 dollar apps.

The only thing that slingbox has on eyetv is that the eyetv has to be located near a mac and have the mac running, while the slingbox is more of a standalone device. Read up on slingbox issues and their bad customer support before you buy one.

I didn't even see this post before I posted but this issue is exactly what I was talking about. It seems like almost all of the solos stop working after a year. Not sure about the HD boxes though, they might be better

I have had a Slingbox Pro HD for well over a year and it's still working great, same goes for my 2 year old Slingcatcher (which is now totally redundant after this new App update).

The new update to the App on the iPad is brilliant, putting the actual device
remote on the screen was a genius idea and the airplay works flawlessly.

I just forked over $150 for a refurb swap on a Pro HD. I know it's anecdotal but I don't think they make any reliable products.

Looking forward to them adding the latest DirecTV boxes so I can have the proper remote on screen.

I went with Vulkano and couldn't be happier. It's cheaper than the Slingbox, gets excellent reviews for support and the app is cheaper.

I wish the iOS Slingplayer app was cheaper, $29 is a bit steep when you already own the hardware, and when there's no cost to view on Mac or PC. Or they should at least have a limited function free version to test things out.

I'm not impressed so far by their software and support ($29 per incident for support after only 90 days??!). When my Pro HD is working, it looks great, but it suffers from occasional stream freezes and W2xx errors - all often reported in their forums but with no clear solution. It makes me nervous to spend $29 for an app and then find out it too is not reliable, or doesn't support my remote, or never gets updated, or...

+1 for Vulkano. When my PRO-HD died last June I replaced it with the Flow. Definitely worth looking into and it might just be me but I think the quality is a little bit better.

Well, count me as a fan of Slingbox. I have the Solo and I never have any problems with it. I do think the app is a bit steep in price but that's my only gripe.

what's the highest bitrate anyone has streamed to the iPad on the Vulkano and the PRO-HD?

I have a sic year old slingbox pro that still works, and a two year old slingbox pro HD. I love slingbox, yes slingplayer is overpriced on the ipad, iphone and android, but besides that I think its the best.

EyeTV you have to keep a mac on and close, "that sounds convenient"
