Am I the only one that isn't too thrilled with a new incoming IM being auto-displayed to the desktop for anyone to see??

I leave my iPhone sitting out in front of me a lot and if others are around, the phone will beep and display "Hey Numnutz, you're an idiot!" or some other potentially embarrassing message from my friends.

If I was 15, I wouldn't care. At work, it's a different story.

Any suggestions or am I missing something??

well id be happy with that.

If you dont want your co-workers to see it put it face down or just dont use your phone for IMing at work.:D

I agree with the OP. Having that preview there is a little more sharing with the world at large than I care to do. However, putting a password on reduces the "ease of use" of the device more than I care to for the value of eliminating the SMS preview.

It's one of the more annoying quirks of the iPhone that I've come across.

I'm with you on this issue. I don't want the hassle of a password, but I don't want my private SMSs on display to the world while at work!

I also wish you could assign Silent or Vibrate to indivuals contacts custom rings tones.

Amen. I'm going to fill out the feedback form as well.

Keep in my please: KEEP IT SHORT AND SWEET. Kiss principle when you give Apple feedback.

I agree 100%! I actually thought of that a couple of hours ago when my aunt had to borrow my iphone...and was alerted to an ongoing conversation between my friend and I which was available for her to read. Would be great to be able to keep it from automatically popping up.

I guess I could see that, but... if you guys are using your iPhones for corporate e-mail, don't you feel obligation to keep it passworded? I keep my Blackberry passworded for no reason other than that I (probably) have PHI on it.

If you're in a theater with ME and I see you pull out your iPhone or ANY device that lights up during the movie you'll be seeking medical help to find it!

Just because you've got it on vibrate doesn't mean EVERY SINGLE PERSON behind you can't see that bright display in a dark room. That's annoying as hell and very bad manners. Why not stand up and turn a flashlight on everyone behind you???

If you're in the last row and no one behind you, by all means, check your display. Anywhere ELSE....do us ALL a favor and leave it in your pocket/purse/car.

Settings -> General -> Passcode Lock -> Set password -> Switch "Show SMS Preview" to the OFF possition.

No more whining, no more useless threads. :)

I don't want my iPhone password protected. No password, no access to 'switch "Show SMS Preview""....

Whine continuance enguaged.;)

LOL.. Take it easy killer, there's plenty of more deserving things to beat people up over than looking at their iPhone display in a movie theater..
;-)

See I am more mad that my phone vibrates when I am talking on the phone.... That actually really really hurts my ear.

wooo calm down lol

it was like 10 minutes before the previews even started and i was in second to the top row. so im sure nobody cared, except the girl who saw that txt msg lol

I just wish there was a way for the preview to make the text message read with out actually reading having to go in and read it.

Ignore leaves the notification, and the only other option is is to view it. It's displaying right there. I am reading emails can't you just say read since I have already read you and am not gonna reply to it?
