ever since new os's came out earlier this fall, i've noticed numerous new issues that have cropped up on my production machine, which i am not updating mid project. (also that unsigned apps debacle thats brewing with 15.1 has me even more concerned about updating)

  • notes consistently completely disappear (ie it says i have no notes at all), forcing a restart for them to come back. this happening once would be one thing, but daily? i assume this is because my phone is on ios 18, and apple probably didn't bother to QA that notes can sync properly to devices running anything other than the newest os's; great way to push upgrade metrics in their quarterly results!
  • admittedly this one predates sequoia release, but has been getting exponentially worse since updating: apps and documents just... spontaneously reopen. originally i thought this was a bug in their 'close windows when quitting an application' setting that just frequently ignores your preference. but its gotten worse: now i close an app, start working in another app and bam the app i fully quit reopens with all its documents and steals focus. this exclusively happens with apple first party apps, and is now not tied to any particular action like a restart, it'll just happen at utter random when using the computer (or even when the computer is idle). so not only is it a privacy intrustion that any personal document can be reopened at any time, but the literal usability of the computer is falling apart with applications launching and random and overtaking the screen.
this lack of care in apple's software is getting to be untenable for me. i swear all these big tech companies are uniformly racing to the bottom knowing that users have nowhere else to go because competitors are just as bad.

Hello,

I don't know which is the configuration you're using, but I'm using Sonoma 14.7.1 with on Mac Mini M1 8GB 256 GB storage (full at 70%) and have no such problems. Never had any of this happen to me even on earlier versions of Sonoma. I don't have lots of knowledge on why or how these problems are happening to you, so I can't help you much, but I wanted to comment to show that this is not a common problem of Sonoma. I do hope other people here may be able to help you.

I like to add that this is NOT a place of homage, but rather a place of complaint.
So, outsiders might think that it is impossible to run any macOS on any APPLE machine.
For years I had the same sad experience on RSX gatherings, later VMS, later UNIX, later Microsoft .......
Probably hell is here ....
;JOOP!

glad its not universal. still: i didn't brick my ipad m4 updating it to ipad os 18, but that was definitely a real and widespread enough issue that apple themselves pulled the update, so these issues can manifest themselves in tricky ways. the fact that its all apple first party software that seems to be glitching out also makes me suspicious that its edge cases in their own systems that they aren't considering, rather than anything specific about my setup (which isn't that elaborate).

i had a nasty volume bug on my iphone for over a year. i would adjust the volume slider in control centre, and then about 1-2 seconds later, it would readjust itself to a completely random volume. it made managing the volume on the iphone absolutely miserable. i did a complete fresh install of the os, and with nary a single bit of cruft carried over, the problem persisted. found reddit threads of people describing the identical issue. eventually it did get fixed in an ios17 point update. but for over a year i had no recourse but to live with a completely glitched volume.

and yes i do file bug reports, but its disheartening how unwieldy software seems to have become.
