The hardware looks wonderful but Sony's insistence on heavily skinning Android would make me worry about timely updates.

SonyEricsson were very supportive of the Android community by supporting CyanogenMod. It'll be interesting to see Sony's stance on open android development given their history with people hacking their hardware.

As it stands my next phone is looking pretty likely to be an Xperia phone coming in 2013. I have a year to watch how they act but they do not seem to be pumping out phone like everyone else. Instead they choose one model and scale it (more or less same specs but different screen sizes) that makes it a lot easier to update.

I hope they have very timely updates because that will be a huge factor in which phone I get next.

Just bought a Xperia Pro - for three reasons - needed physical keyboard, Sony has promised ICS upgrade in reasonable time - Apr/May 2012 and finally they support CM.

Sony is looking like a much better Android vendor in face of Samsung, Moto and HTC screwing up updates and not supporting CM.
