Apples online store is showing many of their new colors just launched in fall as being "sold out" online and in stores. Is this normal? I assume sold out means its not going to be sold anymore. Seems strange after a couple of months.

Usually in Apple parlance sold out really does mean sold out. It does say on the store page that some colours are only available for a limited time.

When the bands are expected to come back, the availability either slips to something crazy like 8-10 weeks, or "currently unavailable". Sold out means probably not coming back.

AirPods are sold out too. Not available til January.
The OP means the availability literally says "sold out" and won't let you even place an order. The AirPods are backordered, but not technically sold out - you can still place an order for January delivery.

I realize it’s christmas. Just bizarre to see bands “sold out” that were just released 3 months ago. Indeed it indicated they aren’t coming back if there’s no “estimated ship time”

Those limited colors have been "sold out" before and came back in stock, so yes they will come back.

You cropped out the important part of my post. I’ve seen never seen “sold out” come back, only “currently unavailable”.

I had a chat with a particularly ”not so bright” Apple store employee about this a few days ago. I was told that “sold out” means they just couldn’t make enough and when they do they will come back. To which I replied.....then why can’t I just order one like any other product where it says “shipping in x-x weeks?” It’s just a simple watch band , not an iPhone. I don’t think there are giant manufacturing challenges facing making a new color band. So his explanation makes zero sense to me.

The only logical thing I can think of is because they are seasonal bands they do a limited run and that’s it. Apple just seems to be greatly underestimating the popularity of the bands.

Now we know .....if you want a band to just get it ASAP. Unfortunately this doesn’t help for people like me who want to buy them as a gift.

The "new" sport band colors still show as sold out. Where are you seeing otherwise?

The spicy orange I see this or is this not the new band? Sorry if you are talking about something else.
I actually see the same "add to bag" option for all the bands with the "new" tag.

That's a new new band :p (added just before Christmas and hasn't sold out yet), the "new" bands mentioned in this thread were the September introductions, for example the Ultra Violet one.

Exactly. And no one wants that ugly orange band anyway. The stuff me and clearly many others wanted has been sold out.

Ok my apologies for trying to help and incorrectly linking you to an ugly orange band you don't care about. Don't worry I won't make that mistake again.

No apology necessary. You linked to a band that was just launched a few weeks ago (which I happen to think is ugly). What I was referring to were all the now sold out colors launched in fall in my original post.

The Rose Red has been discontinued. You can order from Best Buy and they will ship when they get more in (and you hope they do) or try your luck on eBay. I didn't see any on eBay at the moment.

If its discontinued I highly doubt Best Buy will ever get any back in. Thanks for the info though. A shame these just came out and were already sold out by December. So much for a 6-month supply till the next refresh of colors...

I was at the Apple Store Bondi in Sydney the other day and the consultant told me that if it says Sold Out but hasn’t been removed from the website yet, more stock should be incoming at some point
