Just received my shippping notice for my replacement 2.4Ghz SR MBP CTO. I had originally ordered my MBP on the online education store, but had sent it back on July 19th because of the yellow screen issue (Week 27 manufacture, glossy LG screen) and was offered a replacement.

Fedex just picked up my replacement today from Rancho Cardova Califoria and is sheduled to arrive by August 8th.....what gives? I thought all new MBPs came from Shanghai, especially the CTOs (I got the 7200RPM HD). Wonder if my replacement is comingfrom "old" stock?

Anyone else have their online-ordered MBP shipped from the US instead of overseas?

Well, when I ordered my refurb Nano it came from Rancho Cardova as well...

I think the reason it's coming from there is because of the screen shortage.

It could be refurb. This happened to me, but from Middletown, PA. Basically I had a CTO SR MBP ordered, and I was replacing it. I noticed it was a refurb when the replacement came and all the cables didnt have the plastic seal on them. Basically, I never said anything about it, but I did have to get that one replaced as well due to a loose battery, broken keys, and a screen that was U-shaped when closed (peeled up on the right left corners... made it look really uneven).

So yeah, I was pissed when I found that out, though I did nothing. Funny thing was that the serial number of the one from Middletown was week 25, while my MBP before that was week 26.

That said, I encourage you to be on the look for issues and the packing of the remote, DVI/VGA converter, and power brick. Good luck.

Not possible.

It's a CTO MacBook Pro. You can't CTO a refurb.

Welcome to the forums :)
Thanks!

Hmmm... this all sounds a bit fishy in any case. I probably should call Apple. I had the original one on Applecare but returned it within the 14 day grace period so Applecare shouldn't apply. Wonder if the suit on the other end of 1800 MY APPLE would know how to check if I'm getting a refurb replacement?

I ordered 2 refurb ipods from Apple and both came from Rancho Cordova. That is apparently where their refurb center is. It could also be a warehouse as well.

Yes, all manufacturing is in China, and Yes all early shipments of Apple products are sent directly from the manufacturer, but it is very expensive to ship one product at a time through FedEx. As soon as Apple can, they send bulk quantities to their warehouses in the US to lower the costs and speed up the shipping times.

Well, I just got off the phone with Apple, and the kid making 7 bucks an hour on the other end of the line reassured me that my replacement CTO MBP was indeed new, and not a refurb.
However, I think he knew that just by looking at the order number on the Apple Store website that I was looking at, so who knows?

We'll see on August 8th.

This got me worried. I send in mine to Markham, ON. They'll ship replacement on 17th. The supervisor assured me it's shipped from China.

Keep us posted. If you get the smaller adapter, it should be a new one.

And,... Go Nuck Go!

Ok. being ultra paranoid now about this I called Apple again and was told by a supervisor that they weren't entirely sure why the new MBP was being sent from CA, but that it may have been because it was a replacement and they have to get it out quicker (?suggesting that they have a stock of computers in the US for that purpose.....just a guess on my part).

She did reassure me that I was NOT getting a refurb. However, now I'm wondering if I may be getting a new unit that was from an earlier production run (ie week 20-25) that was being warehoused here to take care of replacements and they just swapped out the HD. Meaning maybe I'll get another substandard screen...

I'm still ever so nervous........

i just want to know why you care so much whether it is from china or the us. you are going to get the same product so chill out a little and enjoy the wait.:)

Yeah, I suppose I sound a bit squirrely but the reason I was concerned was:

Rancho Cardaro is where the refurb warehouse is; new units ship from the factory in China and so I thought I may have been getting a used unit instead of a new one.

If it is not refurbed, then I am also concerned that my replacement is from an earlier production run and had been warehoused in the US as opposed to coming straight from the factory (see the thread about "has your SR MPB shipped...they all come from China via FedEx).

The earlier runs had lots of bad screen issues (which is why I sent my first one back to begin with); newer production runs seem to have had less problems from what I read here, so the chances of getting another lemon is higher if this is the case.

That's all. You're right though, I'm should probably chill.

Not exactly same product,.... refurbished not equal new. You pay new price, you shouldn't get refurbished.

They may look the same, feel the same, function the same,.... but it's not the same.

If your's is from week 24-26 (from the serial number without opening the box), you can refuse the package. I think they'll probably send you another one.

I've said this before...
Look at it this way... With all the problems the MBP's have been having... ordering a refurb is probably the better option. This way someone has personally looked at it to repair/replace something. Most likely it received another check over the entire unit. Most likely a refurb unit has a less likley chance of having issues than one that came from the child labor factory in china.

Althoguh I could be wrong.

Maccanuck, what number does ur tracking start with? I had my printer send from CA, and the tracking number start with 7...... my replacement is coming too,.... it's start with 9,.... but info is not updated in fedex site,.... so I don't know where mine's coming from.

And mine is shipped 6 days earlier,... i'm getting paranoid,....could mine be refurbished?

I have the same CTO as yours (2.4ghz, 160hd/7200 rpm and 4gb ram, 256vram) and everything was perfect, runs fast even with multiple screens and great at getting my photos processed through photoshop. I wouldn't worry until after seeing any problems once you've opened your box.Patrick

Yours was a replacement too? From California?

Well done! :)

Psyching yourself out like this isn't healthy. Just chill out and do something else to pass the next few days.

Of course I'm a total hypocrite as I'm sitting here posting and impatiently waiting for Apple to "repair" my yellowish screen. haha ;)

Replacement came today and it's all good. :)

Samsung screen, week 30 manufacture and brand new with the small power adaptor. Not a refurb. There is a very very very light yellow tinge to the bottom 1/3 third, but clearly much better than my previous week 27 LG screen. I actually don't really see the yellow at all and i may be just talking myself into it. Its as close to perfect as I could have hoped for. No dead pixels; no wavy crap, even backlight. Even less of a yellow tinge when looking at it at the side.

Its a keeper.
