New SSD, Mountain Lion & Bootcamp

Hi all,

I have a quick question. I have just purchased a 256GB Crucial M4 SSD that i was going to wait until Mountain Lion is released to install but tbh... i can't wait to fit it even though it could only be a few days hahaha. But my question is, If i install Lion onto the full 256GB then use Boot Camp to split the drive to 128GB each. When Windows 7 is installed and i decide to reformat the 128GB partition with OS X Lion to install Mountain Lion. Will my Windows partition be okay?

If not what is the best way to do this?

Best way is to wait. Next best is that if you do what you are planning to do, it won't affect anything.

The only "problem" you might run into is if ML contains a newer version of boot camp, but even then it shouldn't be too hard to update (so more of a minor annoyance than a problem). You don't have to worry about wiping out your windows partition - the installer won't let you install to that partition without first using disk utility to reformat it. If you are getting errors messages telling you to do that, then you know you've picked the wrong partition .

You don't have to worry about wiping out your windows partition - the installer won't let you install to that partition without first using disk utility to reformat it. * A bunch of drivers for Windows so it'll work with Mac hardware, insofar as there isn't a windows driver already
* An app in MacOS to help you non-destructively repartition your hard drive and do some other things to ease the pain of installing Windows
* And originally, an EFI update that provided a BIOS compatibility layer so legacy OSes like Windows can even begin to boot. This is now part of every Mac from the factory.

So, install that SSD. You won't regret it.

well i fitted the SSD AMAZED AT THE SPEEEEEEEED!

581 seconds to install OS X Lion, very good!

I had to modify the HDD Mounting Bracket to fit it properly though and i finally found use for all those apple stickers i seem to be collecting lol.

just incase anyone hasn't seen what it looks like with an SSD in place of the original drive as i couldn't find a pic on here or google lol. I would like to get a temperature sensor to fit to the drive though, i don't like the shorting it out solution but its better than nothing atm
