New Switch: New Purchase: iMac

After months of contemplating and visits to stores and dreaming and what not of whether to switch, I made it!

Got my iMac 20" G5 2.1 GHz + wireless keyboard+ mouse about 2 days ago. What an experience! Opening the box was great, and setting it up was a breeze. Basically all i had to do was plug the main cable to the power outlet and Voila! it works! It detected my wireless network effordlessly. And it looks so gooooooood. I'll post some picture later...

And the system itself wasnt very hard to figure out at all...very intuitive...Though I wont say that there no adjustment to be made at all cos being a window user all my life, it grew on me. I have the urge to right click...A while to figure how to install downloaded file (I had downloaded MSN messanger) and I still cant figure out how to minimize my contact list screen in MSN Messanger to a smaller screen. Right now it opens to almost the whole of my screen. But I'm sure I can figure it all out soon enough.

And its very fun! my DVD never looks better (for I have been watching it using 12" laptop) and the iPhoto is great. I am having so much fun using the widgets...

I'll have to say that was probably one of my favorite things about setting up my iMac. It's so unbelievably easy. Glad to hear you're happy. It will only get better.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Macs!

No need to minimise stuff in OS X, try hiding the app instead. When MSN Messenger is hidden, it has that little popup window (like in Windows) that shows when someone says something or logs in. Unfortunately MSN Messenger on Mac is pretty featureless, so try something like Mercury Messenger (http://www.mercury.to), with Growl installed for notifications. I've got that set up and it's sweet!!

I just have to agree with your remark about how easy it is to setup a Mac, its truly amazing how easy it is to open the box, plug in the cables, and start using it in virtually no time at all.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Mac! I switched last month and I couldn't be happier. The night I brought home my Rev B iMac I was astonished at how quickly and easily it set up, how it effortlessly connected to my wireless network, how in minutes I was registered and happily tapping away online. The iMac is a work of art to look at and a wonderful performer!

I took care of the right-click problem by buying a Mighty Mouse the next day, since my computer came with just the standard one-button Apple mouse. You do have to program the MM, though, to get the second button to work as a right-clicker.

I played with a new iMac at an Apple Store on Black Friday. The screen is unbelievable; I love photobooth and the built-in isight. It was almost enough to convince me to give up my ibook and go back to a desktop.
