Hey there, just came home with my 12" PB and loving it. I have lots of docs and files on my PC and I am having toruble finding a guide to transferring them over. Most searches yield links to 3rd party apps, which I don't believe I need...

Can't I just send over files with a crossover cable? Any guides available?

Many thanks...

An Ethernet cable will work (doesn't have to be crossover, new Macs are auto-sensing). You'll have to take down any Windows firewalls and turn on file sharing.

There is also an issue with file naming, you can get an application called NameCleaner that will batch-rename files and also apply the correct Type and Creator associations.

See http://www.macwindows.com for much advice

iPods (and other players) and data cds + dvds are other options, too. ;) These are much faster than ethernet, it took me about 15 minutes to transfer 2gbs of music to my computer from another (after fumbling around with connection incompatabilities with the Mac and XP box for a good 20 minutes).

In my opinion, if you don't have an iPod, ask a friend to lend you one, it will be much less painful.
