Are you sure you're adding apps, not docs of folders?
The left hand side of the dock can only have the .app in it, whereas the right side can have folders and docs.

You can't lock the dock. I'd go to the activity monitor and quit the "dock" process. It will kill the dock and restart it. Should be fine afterwards.

Give it a go and report back. Never had that problem before though.

First of all WELCOME TO THE BRIGHT SIDE OF COMPUTERS!!

I'm a switcher to, I got my iBokk a month and a half ago, and since then I've learned more about computers than in my 10 years of PC. LOL

To add apps to the dock you just need to DRAG them from finder and throw them on the DOCK.
You might have two issues that are not allowing you to add apps.
1- It is not an Application what you want to add.. anything that is not an application (example, a document) can NOT be added to the DOCK with the rest of the apps. it must be added to the RIGHT side of the DOCK next to the Trasher or the @ simbol. Got it?:p
2- Probably your dragging option is not enable... Chech System Preferences (that little square on the Dock with the apple) go to mouse and keyboard settings and check the box that enables dragging and clicking with the scrooll panel...

ENJOY MAN ENJOY... Once you go Mac you'll never want to look BACK!!! Remember Steve Jobs is a MASTER!!!... and Bill Gates is the Emperor of the Dark Side... Keep with the FORCE use a Mac... ;)

ok,another thing
can i not check hotmail email from apple's mail?
should i use something else?
it works for gmail but not for hotmail(and of course not for yahoo i suppose)

also, should i download and upgrade to tiger 10.4.3 or whatever the new version is called?

and yet another question: no home, delete, end keys on keyboard, any key combos for those functions?

what exactly does the >| (rotate to left) key do?

unless you subscribe to hotmail you will not be able to use external clients to control it and even if you did i belive youl need a html to pop3 thingo becuse for me outlook uses a html connection not pop3 (html comes with a subscription tho)

No, Hotmail doesn't have a pop3 server so you can't use it with Mail. I use gmail and it works very well.

Yes, you should upgrade to 10.4.3. It's a service pack that adds more stability and features to 10.4.0 (I presume you're using 10.4.0). The difference in stability alone is very noticeable and the UI is faster in 10.4.3 than in 10.4.0 by a good margin.

I presume you're using a laptop, my iBok has the home, end, page up and page down keys assigned to the arrow keys, to use them, you hold down the "fn" key and press the required key at the same time. What do you mean you have no "Delete" key? Is that not the key up in the top right corner of the keyboard with the word "delete" on it?

I have no idea what that other key you're talking about is, it doesn't appear on my keyboard. Can we get a pic?

It will take up as much memory and processor power as it needs. 9% isn't that much.

I'm currently watching a music video on iTunes whilst typing this and it's reporting iTunes as using about 38% of the CPU. With a song playing it's at about 14%. With iTunes open but not hidden it's at about 2% and hidden it takes up a little bit less than that.

i wondered this fora while, unless you subscribe you cant do it unfortunately, i wish there was like a one time fee that you could pay to have your hotmail library all sent to a different address. i use gmail now and that DOES work with mac mail. 2.5 gig storage WOO HOO

you wish
Enter the function key

The >I (rotate left) is the enter key. You can also type enter using the return key while holding down the fn (function) key. Enter and return keys perform different functions in several apps, i.e. several text editors and page layout apps. The fn key can also be used on the backspace/delete key to perform opposite direction deletes when typing, in other words deleting characters to the right of the text insertion point.

I´d also like to welcome you to a great platform and an equally great society!

First off, welcome! I'm a rather recent switcher as well.

I found that one can do Command(Apple) key + arrow keys to go to the beginning and end of lines as well as pages. This works for me on my Powerbook.:D

I've also switched to gmail, but I still check my hotmail account. I use IzyMail Server as an HTTP -> POP3 gateway on my Dell, but Macs could probably use IzyMail Online http://www.izymail.com to access hotmail/yahoo/aol accounts.

There is also http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/18189, and GotMail for unix http://freshmeat.net/projects/gotmail/ which should work on OS X.

With regards to the one time fee idea, maybe this could help: http://www.trueswitch.com/

No, it's not a whole new OS, just an update to the current one. All it does is patch up a few bugs, changes some code to make things faster and adds some new little features.

You won't lose anything.

ok,i looked through that guide and what it says is that i need to drop the application in the trash(which i've already tried) and delete the preferences in the library as well.also the mouse has a microsoft mouse helper thingy that runs whenever i log into tiger.i suspect that is causing the problems and i tried not running it when i log in but that didn't work either.since there is no uninstall option, what exactly do i do?
combine all these?
drop the application in the trash, delete preferences and remove the helper from the startup list?
help please cause this thing is really pissing me off

I have an App called "Intellipoint Uninstaller" in my "Utilities" folder.

Have a look in there, I had an MS mouse hooked up too so you might have the same thing.
