hi,
My gf just switched!! Brand new 1.25 Ghz G4 tower... :D

anyway, I may need a little help getting all her windows files and such on to the mac. The only thing that seems problematic right now is her Eudora mailboxes. She wants to save all the old messages from her windows 98 eudora program (v. 5.1 or something).

We have Eudora for the mac, in case that helps. We can also import the messages in entourage or OS X mail if that's somehow easier (I doubt it).

Can the mac version of Eudora read the contents of windows eudora mailboxes?

help ASAP please! thanks!

most likely

Short answer Yes. You can import her mail box from her old computer. I am unsure where Eudora stores her mail box, but if you go though the help on windows and look for backing up mail box, It should show you a way to make a copy of her mail box. Then you should be able to import her mail box to her mac. If Eudora wont do it, Mac Mail can import it.

For those favorites, you can find in the favorites folder on her pc, send it to the mac. Then open Safari or the browser she wants, open the favorites area on the browser, then just drag the links that you have sent over into the favorites area, I believe that is how it is done.

thanks dude. Still a little confused though. We have made a copy of the mailbox from Eudora, but where do I put it on the mac so that either Eudora or mail.app will see it? These apps have the option to "import from another application," but I don't have another application exactly - just the mailboxes.

Import

You can move the mac box to the macs desktop. Then you need to IMPORT it. In the Mail.app, you click File -> Import, then it will ask which program you are importing it from, which will be Eudora. Then it will ask where the mailbox is located which it gives you the default but you will hit the >>, then it will ask you to navigate to the mail box, so go find it on the desktop and import.

I'm sure Eudora has a way too of Importing, might just be the same way.

ah, very nice. It works in mail.app... Eudora is woefully unable to find the mailbox despite the fact that it came from Eudora. That should suffice though. Many thanks.
