New Tech Support Blocked Myspace.com /rant

Maybe this isn't such a valid rant, however my school is now under a new tech support staff after the education cooperative that my school is involved with layed off their entire tech support staff and they have begun outsourcing their tech support to some goobers who have no freaking idea what they are doing. Now there is an increase of spam and a lot more websites including myspace.com are blocked. If I find out that MR gets blocked then I will be VERY UPSET. This is my only hope for enjoyment when I am sitting in class and supposed to be doing something else rather than IRC and myspace.

BTW: I kind of chat to use IRC, I connect to a freeshell account on a server using port 44 since port 22 is blocked through our network and IRC ports are blocked, I get in to the freeshell account and access IRC.

So yeah, this isn't a real rant... but come on they took away my myspace, and I am very sad. :( Now I will have to wait until I get home and check my myspace, oh my! I think I am a turning into one of those emo kids who are addicted to myspace.

um, its school. their policies rule. sorry.
myspace seems like a waste anyways. (to me at least).

if you're supposed to be doing other things, then maybe this will help you do them :p look at the bright side.

Oh Yes, but I just wanted to play drama queen. Also I happen to have a big thing agains this new staff, because my father was the director of the team was layed off, and he spent the las 21 years building was this new staff has killed. There used to be virtually no spam with the system that my father designed in which spam was rejected, and valid messages were let through. Now there is a lot of spam and even valid messages being rejected. This new blocking system blocks a lot of valid sites. The school doesn't make the policy their provider makes the policy, and their provider as cut back services and the school will end up paying more money for crappy service.

Plus, I am ahead in this computer class, and I have nothing better to do right now than rant right now.

Go to Myspace when you want an overwhelming vomit of pictures, text, colors, shapes, sounds, and music all by entering a URL. Who needs drugs when you can go to a socially-inept eighth grader's Myspace for a wild ride?

Seriously, how many teens are addicted to MySpace? Filling out the stupid surveys, then posting them online for the world to see... Just asking to be stalked.

Sounds like my school. We had a very open system last year, well-protected by security, but open as in you could whatever you wanted. Not run by the county or school system, but run by us kids and our computer science teacher.

Then, he left, so we got the county's techies who are doing a horrible job. We had a spyware outbreak and plenty of other complaints.

Ok, you are still in HS and you are mad that you cant access myspace from the school????? WHAT!!!!!!???????

I know school can be boring, been there done that (and still doing it, about to start my doctoral program), so suck it up. Save myspace for when you get home after school. School is supposed to be about learning, right? ;)

Yes, but I happen to have two computer classes that we get very little work in, so there is a lot of time to sit around and surf the web. Anyhow, like I said I already have my complaints against the tech support staff. So yeah, like I said not a big deal but sometimes I like to play the drama queen, because I am a nerd like that.

See, those are the classes that i hated. They expect you to sit in class, with no work to do and somehow still behave? And we wonder why our educational system is going to hell...lol

In that case, MR will probably teach you more than that class. Keep surfin'!

I wouldn't say that. With your stereotype Myspace user, he/she is basically posting their life story online. In a web forum, you can cover your tracks up much better. Looking at my own profile, you know my birthday and my Mac and that's about it. Of course they are equals if you're going to reveal every single little detail of your life (which is what your typical Myspace user does). I think you really don't know anybody in this forum based on what they posted and their profile alone (although some people should reconsider what they've posted in their profiles), but take anybody's Myspace, and you've got plenty of dirt to work with.
 
myspace.com has probably borderline and/or adult material on it, and it wouldn't surprise me it would deemed inappropriate for school. did you ever realize those outsourced people you do not like maybe liable for kids viewing adult content?

Certainly. Around here you'll get an occasional "Who really is so and so??" threads.. and its kinda creepy. Tends to happen to the guys with cute girls for avatars. It was a joke on my part, poorly executed. :)

I thought it was funny that a bunch of us were jumping on this kid for being so crazy about having access to myspace... when we're all posting on here multiple times daily.
 
I enjoy myspacing it up, so I can definitely feel your pain. In my school, though, any activity unrelated to school is banned, so consider yourself lucky in that respect.

Mmm, this is why you go to a fine arts school. I have so much freedom. I spend about 3 hours a day, just sunning outside. (I still study, though! I study and sunbathe!)

Senior year, I have 2 academic classes. (I don't count BCIS. It's crap I'd do anyway, except for all the using 14 point comic sans *shudder* ..it says to do that in the state-mandated book. *barf*)
I really only have to work in Calculus... antiderivatives and integrals and oh.. no.. :eek:
In english, I have a 103%. I've gotten nothing under a 100% in that class so far, this semester.

myspace is like the thing to do at school. Everyone is on it constantly.

At any given time in the day, at least 4 people from school are on it that I can see from my friends list.
(Yes, I gave in too, but I don't have bright green text on bright pink background with 19 video clips that load simultaneously.)

I think the difference between the average student on myspace and myself is that I only do it AFTER I finish my work. (ok, I know I totally killed that sentence, but I'm tired. Shh!)
I have an average of 45 minutes off every BCIS class, so I do it then and at home POST-homework. I still get good grades. I don't get on myspace instead of doing english homework and then wonder "Why is Mr. So-and-so failing me? HE HATES ME!!1!1!! OMG HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN!!~!!~! I should post about it in my LJ!"

I think in the long-run, banning myspace access from school servers is a good thing. I know some people that could benefit from less myspace and more English, Pre-Cal, and Economics studying.
Only dorks like me will know to get on it through a proxy. ;)
(then everyone'll beg me to help them get on it, through said proxy, but I'll tell them, "NO! Study your econ! Economics rocks my socks!!")
wow, that was a lot of words. I'd better post about it on my myspace.:p

she hasn't changed it back.

I'm just waiting until she forgets to log out one day... 12 point TIMES NEW ROMAN, black on white! it'll be great!! :) :D
 
I have a proxy set up on my webserver. Quite often, I have to access sites for our TV show that are blocked by the firewall (eg. Google Image search).

If you are smart enough to know how to do it, you are smart enough to not visit porn sites or whatever. I use it for good only ;)
