New to Apple TV

so i just connect my new Apple TV and purchased my first movie...... Is it normal to have to wait 3+ hours for the movie i just rented to download before I can watch it? I understand my internet connection plays into this, but it cant be that bad can it? I am directly plugged in to my router..... Thank you in advance for you help.

No, that's far from normal...As posted above, what is your ISP and what MB download speed are you supposed to be getting? It sounds like you are suffering from low Internet download speeds. If you have a fast connection and the downloads are still slow, go into settings on your ATV and perform the network speed and diagnostic test...If you do have good bandwidth and the problem persists, you might need a replacement.

Are you streaming it from your Apple TV or are you downloading it to your computer? If it's the former, then it's not normal at all. If it's the latter, then depending on your speed, yes that could be normal. When renting movies through iTunes, I do it through the Apple TV menu and so it is streamed. When I buy a movie though, I go through iTunes on my computer so I can download it and for an HD movie, it can take around three hours to download.
