New to iMac!

Hi all,

Yesterday I finally made the move to OS X and got myself the high-end 21.5". I had settled for the lower model but the store had none left and it was the last day of the '£100 off recycle scheme' so I thought "To hell with it!" and made the gamble

Have to say I am loving it so far, I am not a power user by any means, this system will hopefully last me forever and a day - I had my last Packard Bell with XP for over 5 years!

You all seem a knowledgeable and friendly bunch so I decided to join up as I have a couple of questions, but I will save those for another post

Only issue so far is that I have one dead pixel I think. It's not a problem it's just annoying knowing it's there.

Mine flew in to London today (from Germany, from Korea, from China, in that order) and I took delivery of it earlier this evening.

Haven't had a chance to turn it on though. Too busy clearing the desk, etc.

I've never used a Mac before (apart from Apple Store).

I hope I don't have a dead pixel! Will know tomorrow evening...

Did you just turn it on and away you go, or have to go through installation procedures? I know I'm being lazy. I am taking the little book with me for my commute tomorrow so hopefully will be in a better position to actually turn the thing on tomorrow evening (UK time).

FYI - I got the 21.5" ATi spec.

Indeed mine was made in Shanghai (I think), built in October which surprised me.

When you turn it on, there is a few steps but nothing that takes more than 10 minutes!

Thanks... it was a doddle.

I love it already. Still getting used to everything (having spent the last 15 years navigating in Windows only) but love how responsive and sharp the machine is.

That's what I originally intended on doing, but after reading up on it, it seemed most people agreed you need a lot more than 1 dead pixel to even be considered a swap? I would only do it if they restored all my files onto the new machine anyway...might just give them a call tomorrow. Solutions inc. is an official Apple reseller if that makes any difference.

I thought my new 27" had a dead pixel as well but upon further examination with a magnifying glass it now actually appears to be a tiny bit of grit on the backside of the glass panel. Maybe yours is the same? Not that it really matters as the end result is still the same but just curious if you have the same problem. I'm not worried about it on mine as it's not in the centre of the screen and it's really so tiny I have to go looking for it to see it.

In regards to swapping this, Apple's "official" policy will be "Go away". Having said that however, it depends where you bought it as the store policy may be different. Good luck and enjoy your new toy!
