Hello all!
I have ordered the iPad pro 12.9, 1TB and this will be my first apple product ever.

I'm an artist by profession, 2D, 3D and animation, and plan on using my new iPad for art creation purposes.
Painting and sculpting etc.
I'm looking forward to getting a hold of Procreate!

I have been a PC user my entire life, and Android user for my other products. So I'm very unfamiliar with how Apple does things in the OS (iPadOS).

I would love some advice on how to use this thing haha.
Things like, which apps to use (or to avoid) for art, file management, power user options (if any). Word processing or office software?
How well will I be able to work with my windows pc along side this? Can I share files with windows if needed? Will they even be able to "talk" to each other?

I use Firefox, with various add-ons to make browsing life easier and safer... Is safari capable of add-ons like ublock for example?

Any advice that comes to mind you can offer a new user to the entire platform would be very much appreciated.

Cheers!

There are adblockers on the iPad, but they don't work like they do on Android, you either have to sideload them (so to speak) or put up with very minimal blocking software thats allowed to exist on the app store.

Apple really locks down structural circumvention like that, they don't like it.

Regardless, you're going to love it and wow, you picked one heck of a beast of a machine to have for a first experience to the platform, you're going to love it, no doubt.

I have been able to try out coworkers devices in the past, but not for long. My decision to get one was a couple days before the pre sale happened. A happy coincidence.

I usually jump on the higher end of tech when I purchase... Don't like to potentially limit myself performance wise in my computer hardware. I went with 1tb to get the 16gb of RAM... could never live with 8 knowing I could have had 16.

I have been reading plenty of discussion about it its worth it, and I can see how upgrading a recent device may not be. But starting from zero, I might as well.

My coworkers said 16gb would be awesome in procreate.

Right on... yeah, I think you're going to love it. I own several tablets for illustrative purposes, and while the Tab S7 comes pretty close for a totally pleasant experience, the iPad Pro just dominates on the software front. I am not a professional artist, well at least not in the traditional sense, but if you are, you will find the software available on iOS is more than likely going to fulfill all of your wants and needs.

Enjoy the experience!

You don't have access to a traditional filesystem and if you use NTFS-formatted drives, they're not gonna work on the iPad.

Personally, I use Windows PCs as well and I find it easy enough to live with these limitations by using Dropbox and (since iPadOS 13) SMB for file transfers. Just thought I should warn you since that seems to be a huge gripe from some folks coming from Android or Windows.

Hey, congratulations and welcome to the world of iPad. It’s a good creative and learning tool. I use the iPad for certain things and my Mac for others — each are useful in their own way.

Procreate is a good choice too — I first bought this back in 2011 when it first came out. The Apple Pencil 2 is a must for this app.

Notability for note taking.

Luma Fusion for video editing

That 12.9" mini LED is gorgeous so you might want to watch your movies stored on your PC on iPad instead.

Clip Studio Paint is the most complete app for drawing and painting on iPad
It’s literally the desktop version, with all the functionalities and the same user interface

It results in a UI definitely less sexy than Procreate, a steeper learning curve, and it’s also a subscription only app ($25 a year) which explains why it doesn’t get the same hype as procreate

But if you do art for a living you definitely have to check it out, it does so much more than procreate

With that being said Procreate is still awesome for sketching or for the projects it can handle
