Got a 3G in October. First smartphone and one of my best gadget purchases ever. Love this thing and the apps.

Should I jailbreak? What are the risks? Can I fully restore my iphone after a jailbreak with contacts and apps still in place?

What is so great about jailbreaking? For example, impress me with apps that I can use that are not available on the app store. (Turn by turn GPS would be cool, what else is cool?)

Is it easy? I have hacked psp's before and really enjoyed emulators (NES) and other homebrew.

Also, is Jailbreaking legal? I assume it is so long as you do not use pirated app store software?

THanks in advance. I guess what I'm looking for is to be convinced to jailbreak (knowing that I won't do any permanent damage to my iphone)

Just a little tip; if you're not comfterble with doing the jailbreak process, get a friend who's done it before on an iPod/iPhone. Or just pay attention to the guides very carfully.

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy your jailbreak, if you go ahead with it :D

Don't worry too much, though, because PwnageTool is cake to use. You can only irreversibly break your phone if you disconnect while the new firmware is being loaded. Otherwise you're fine. Seriously.
