Carrier New to iphone

Just got a 5c for my wife and need to set up an Apple ID. Intered her email address and
Set up a password and this is the message I received

Sounds like whatever email address you have entered has already been associated with an Apple ID. Perhaps she might have an Apple ID that was created as some point? I think you should be able to look it up at https://appleid.apple.com/

Apple IDs can be used across devices. Perhaps you have a Mac, or an iPad or perhaps an iPod Touch? If you do, and at any point, created an Apple ID for that device then you'd either need to make a new one or use that Apple ID (with the password already set for it of course).
