I just jail broke my iphone for the first time not more than 25 minutes ago.

So far I have installed:clippy, cycorder, backgrounder, iblacklist, snapture, spoofapp.

When I plug into itunes will it backup the jailbroken apps like it would native?

I tried to find out for myself but didn't really understand clearly....WHAT is the most major difference between Installer and Cydia?? Do I really need both or is Cydia all one really needs for personal/business usage?

What is the app where it allows us to store different apps into one folder on the spring board?

I don't think I plan on using I think it's called winterboard....where one can customize his/her home screen with themes and such. I've heard it usually slows the phone considerably more so. What are all your thoughts/experiences??

Like mentioned above I'm only a half hour into this and so far with the use of clippy I can easily say I'd never go back to a stock iPhone. In saying that, I feel like a totally tool for not converting sooner. Just seems so much better already, I'm excited for it.

Can anyone recommend any cools app I might like to test drive?

Thanks to everyone who helps/replies or mingles.

Thanks guys!!

James

no

Just use Cydia. Installer was great before 2.0 but now Cydia is what most people use and installer has fallen to the wayside.

I did notice some slowdown but most people who are against jailbreaking blow it out of proportion. From what I've seen a lot of people won't even notice a difference in performance

Check out pdanet for tethering. SBSettings is also a must have it makes turning on and off things like edge, wifi, 3g, airplane mode, etc. much easier. Download OpenSSH so you can SSH into the phone.

Jailbroken Apps will NOT sync with iTunes, but your App Store Apps will continue to sync as normal.

You don't need install, it old, and nothing works on it. Everything is put on Cydia now.

Categories. Read about it first before installing, there are several problems people have had with it.

WinterBoard doesn't cause me any lag, but it will do if you have an excessive number of themes active at once.

Hmm... BossPrefs/SBSettings?

No, there is no way to backup jailbroken apps completely. You can use AptBackup to instantly re-install the Cydia apps that you would lose if you, say, upgrade the firmware and re-jailbreak.

The difference is Installer is a piece of poo-poo and is totally unnecessary, whereas Cydia is a Godsend and is everything you will ever need as far as downloading jailbroken apps.

It's called categories.

It does not CONSIDERABLY slow down the phone. If you theme EVERY aspect of your phone and you run apps like backgrounder (which i actually recommend you not use because it drains your battery quite fast and uses an extensive amount of resources) then you will notice considerable lag. I for one enjoy my phone a lot more after theming it, as it makes it bearable to look at knowing that it doesn't look like every iPhone out there. Plus it's a good conversation topic when other iPhone owners see your phone. ;)

Here's my themed iPhone currently:

Sure, here's a few of what I would recommend:
-OpenSSH (allows you full and complete access to your device wirelessly using SFTP/SCP)
-PdaNet (tether your iphone's 3G connection to your laptop/computer)
-MewSeek/dTunes (download songs)
-SBSettings (a drop-down menu when you swipe your status bar at the top to instantly turn on/off some settings)
-gpSPhone/snes4iphone (game boy and snes emulators)
-FivelRows (have 5 rows of apps on your Springboard instead of four, this way you can fit more apps per page...works well with a theme that utilizes small icons)
-FiveIconDock (have 5 icons on your dock instead of 4)
-StatusNotifier (get notifications for new SMS/Voicemail/Missed Calls etc on your status bar)

Search around the forums if you need more detailed info on some of these things, or as always just read the descriptions/instructions on Cydia for each of these apps.

Have fun and welcome to the other side.

wow thanks a lot guys, already you've all given valid tips/ideas or answers in general.

Here's another question......is swirlymms only a trial version? I'm pretty sure I read it will only last up to 14 days when using the demo.

I would not want to purchase it for the $8.00 or whatever they are charging, although it does seem like a really cool app.

So my question is...after the 14 days if you don't purchase the real app, will the demo app not work anymore??

And if that is the answer can someone recommend a free MMS app from Cydia??

**I really can't believe I waited this long to do this, I've had it since day 1**

I feel like such a fool, it's so much better this way, holy crap!!

Opps sorry 1 more question guys............

I have unfortunetly already installed "installer".

Can someone please tell me how I can get rid of it without having to go through re jailbreaking it again.

Help someone, please!

You need to install OpenSSH and access your iPhone, navigate to /root/Applications and delete the "Installer.app" folder I believe. Search MacRumors/Google for full instructions on how to use OpenSSH and what program you'll need for your computer in order to access your iPhone.

Also, check your PM's.
