I know this is old news to those of you who jailbreak but I just took the leap today. I have a 3G iPhone that I have been unhappy with (even 2.1) and decided to try to go back to 1.1.4 on a 16GB 1st gen phone I bought. I had to downgrade it and the Jailbroke it.

Wow. I am so impressed by what the community has put together. At this point the phone is running MUCH more smoothly and more stable than my 3G...with better battery life! It looks to me that there is much more cool stuff available from the Jailbreaking community than the Apple App Store! I think I'm gonna sell my 3G and have lots of fun with my "new/old" iPhone!

Just had to share...

Oh yeah, Summerboard is the coolest!

just disable all the battery hogging feature (location, 3g etc) and keep the sleeker model with better hardware and gps....

1.1.4 will be a smooth on a 3g as a 2g

Actually, I have had all functions (3G, Location, Push, etc) turned off and found that I was getting about an hour to an hour and a half less battery life than my 1st gen phone. It really got frustrating. When you said 1.1 will be as smooth you meant 2.1 right?

i edited it

i meant 1.1.4 if that the firmware your gonna use

Can you install 1.1.4 on the 3G iPhone??? Have you done it? I've been wondering about this. Please let me know if you have any info...

Thanks!

I wouldn't risk it, as the hardware for 3G is entirely different than first gen.

rotobadger dude your battery is just faulty. go to the apple store and they get it fixed up for you. the 3G has better battery life than the 2G (with 3G turned off)
