I have just purchased my first Mac, a Macbook. Coming from a PC background there are many thing that are totally alien to me. Installing downloaded software is one of these things. I have managed to install some stuff from help here but really I'm not sure of the concept so I just dragged the file to the HD icon, and it worked but I don't know what I did.

Where is a good place to find the install process for the mac explained? I tried a search and didn't come up with much or I didn't get the wording of the request right.

Thanks

For apps without an installer, just drag the application icon to the applications folder like you did. If it has an installer, just follow the install process like you normally would. :)

Welcome to the world of mac Sundance. I have just had mine for about a year and have not regretted anything.
Macs to me are easier to use than pcs. I am sure that you will enjoy your experience.
Macs run a little bit different than pcs so all you have to do is get used to it.
A little hint, print up a list of shortcuts or remember them. It will help you out tremendously.
I think apple.com has a list of the shortcuts that you can print out.
Have fun!

This might help. It is a link for switching from pc to mac
