I have been a Windows PC user for 20+ years. Just got my first-ever Macbook Pro about a month ago. I'm still not getting used to it as I feel things are missing which I got used to on Windows over the years. I guess it will take time but I'm hoping to find some alternatives here where Google, App Store, Alternative.to failed. I believe it would be the same for Mac users if they move to Windows for some reason. It's really hard to get rid of habits and something you got used to.

I need a Video Player. I have love/hate relationship with VLC for more than a decade. Never used it much. I have used KMPlayer for many years and then PotPlayer as an alternative when KMPlayer went mad. I think both are developed by the same developers. The interface is simple. It can run any video type. It has all the options for a keyboard and MOUSE. And the best feature which I just realized after years is multiple and easy Playlists. Click on the Playlist button, it opens a separate box, create a playlist tab, add songs, create another playlist tab, and repeat. Move any song to the top. It's easy to organize, no need to drag-drop to the top when the song is on #400 in the list. VLC has one playlist, and it doesn't keep a history of the playlist, so I have to save multiple playlists and then load them each time. Many other Video players I have tried from App Store have a single playlist feature. VLC is the only solution I found so far with some missing features like multiple easy playlists and no options for Mouse like double click for pause and wheel click for full screen.

I'm also looking for a File Manager similar to XYPlorer. I have been using this for years on Windows and that sidebar tree / mini tree feature is very useful. It opens a new tab in the same location as the previously selected tab, then I can go anywhere from the tree. I don't like multiple panes, especially on this 13-inch Macbook Pro. So a single-pane file manager with a tree feature and multiple tabs would really help. I have tried Commander One, don't know how to disable dual pane, can't find the option, and I think it doesn't have a tree. I'm using finder. Any alternative or tips for Fidner would help.

A better IPTV Player with Xtream Codes option? IPTVSmarters Pro works but it's not optimized for both Windows/Mac. There are better options on Windows, can't find one for Mac so far.

Thanks and sorry for the long post.

there
The beauty and convince of a MacBook is everything we typical  users need is there from the start.

we  users never deciphered what code or variation a Video player distributes,
we just enjoy and use our video player called "Quick Time" on our Macs.
Now there is a software called "Apple TV" that is better at stream on our airplay devices.
We also think our file systems is perfect were we don't need to fish around a tree for a file.
if we need another screen or view we use "Tabs" or open in a new window, which is easier that windows.

You must be enjoying the extra extra long life battery on this MacBook
instead of the promised one Intel™ failed to deliver, as promised on their PC laptops last year, Eh?

Some folks here like the IINA app for video playback.

Regarding XYPlorer…I have no idea other than I don't think anything with that sort of "tree" view exists for macOS.

I guess it's kind of like moving from one country to another. If you move from the UK to the USA you might find a house with doors that have doorknobs at chest level and toilets with a three-foot drop to the water (I exaggerate)…but people just seem to get by without those.

So why did you get a Mac? It seems what you really want is a new Windows machine.
I want to convert a few Android apps to iOS which I created. And want to get my feet wet in iOS development. Also, I always wanted to use MacOS. Probably the same for many Windows users who can't afford it.

I can understand that most users go with default apps. It's the same on Windows.

I was hoping there must be a Video player which allows multiple playlists. All other things I mentioned are optional. Of course, I will get used to shortcuts. Copy/Paste with command was quite irritating at the beginning and after a month, it's not anymore.

XYplorer is a 3rd party file manager. Mini tree is a feature that saves a lot of time while browsing through multiple folders and tabs. It helps when you have lots of tabs open at the same time.

Yeah. The battery is working great and is better than Intel processor.

Thanks for the link. That would help quite a bit to find different apps.

Thanks for the recommendation. I just installed it and it's looking great.

yeah intel kinda tried too hard on newer laptops, my 2014 (intel) chromebook thats severely outdated has a strangely good battery still that can last about 3 days before needing to be recharged again lol

This used to be one of the best things about the Mac, but alas it is not true anymore. There are all sorts of things that Quicktime can't play. This includes formats from Apple itself, such as system 7 sounds and older codecs like Sorenson that came with Quicktime and were the best at the time.

It also completely sucks that anyone would need a File Manager. The Finder used to be practically perfect. Now something as simple as finding a file that you already know the name of is a mess. The finder has deteriorated to the point that many programs build their own File Manager into them. (Photoshop, Final Cut, Photos, and Music) It is like learning a new OS every time you switch programs.

This is a very good video playback program!
Yes. It's really good. Now my default video/audio playback app on MacBook.

Any recommendation for IDM (Internet Download Manager) alternative for MacBook Pro?

Is there any way for Finder to open a new tab on the current tab location? Settings allow to set a default location. I found this hack to show only active apps in dock and I wonder if there is a similar kind of hack for Finder. And is there any way for Finder to continue where I left off? Similar to Chrome tabs.

I've never used IDM but it just looks like it's a browser extension that works with just about any browser.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are multiple ways to open a new tab in the current tab location. One way is, if you show the path bar (Finder>View>Show Path Bar), to right-click the current location in the shown path and "Open in New Tab".

Also keep you Mac act like a newer machine by using the free application Onyx and run it's Maintenance routines about one every 2-3 months doing it routines to reboot your Mac. This will keep the caches in check throughout your Mac's lifetime!

Also there is good free hackey program called TinkerTool to run hackies to your Mac!

Lastly I like the free application for the Finder menu called Meteorologist!
Plus if you are an artist or picture taker look at the shareware or even now a video guy look at pixelMator Pro!

Thank you for this. It's working like IDM but there is one issue I have and I don't yet if there is a solution. When I enabled, MP4, MKV, and other video extensions, Instead of showing a small icon to download the video on Youtube, it directly started downloading the video and the stream didn't work. I have to see if there is a solution.

PathFinder looks good. Checking other recommendations.
