New To Mac Rumours.......need some help

Hi everyone.......I am new to Mac Rumors but not to Mac.

I have had a Macbook for 1.5 years now but since getting an Iphone I have REALLY started to like Mac products and wish to get an Ipad.

At the moment I have started up a real estate business and wish to become VERY organized using my Apple products. Also I want to us my iphone, ipad and Macbook to better organize my personal life.

I love the ease of use with Apple products but have come acrossed a few problems that are driving me nuts.....I was wondering if a could talk to someone on here who is a Apple expert and get some help with becoming siper organized with Mac products

with the iphone 4 i have two problems with the email section of them.

ill explain........

1. when I delete an email on my iphone it will not delete on my hotmail account.......this s annoying as I do not usually go on my otmail account now since i have an iphone BUT when i do it is flooded with email that I thought I got rid of.........

2. I organized all my emails into different folders BUT now since i did that on hotmail I do not get all of my emails sent to my iphone........or I just dont know how to view the different folders using the iphone email app.

what I would like to do is have all my emails organized on hotmail into different ccounts BUT have them all come together on my iphone 4 like they were before.........and when i delete them on my iphone I want them gone from my hotmail at the same time

You need an email provider with IMAP capability. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IMAP Maybe Hotmail has this option; I'm not sure.

When you use an IMAP email account, your inbox and other folders will always be in sync. When you delete a message on your iPhone, it will also be deleted when you access the account from your computer or any other device. That is the magic of IMAP. It's all synchronized.

Yup, you want to use IMAP. It was made for what you are trying to accomplish, making email more universal across several devices where actions taken on one device carries to all the others.

Unless I am wrong, hotmail does not have the IMAP. You could use a free email service like gmail or iCloud instead. Both will work great. I use them both daily. They integrate into Apple's applications very well too!

iCloud is easy to setup, just got to iCloud in System Preferences.

You setup a microsoft exchange account on the iOS device to utilize IMAP.

I suggest you use yahoo or iCloud as your email instead of gmail. Gmail has some compromises you have to accept.

Gmail
Pro:
1. If you use other google services (YouTube, google+, google voice), then those services integrate easily
2. It's free

Cons
1. You have to set gmail up as exchange when you want push email on the iPhone. If you do that, when you delete and email on you phone, gmail archives it instead of really deleting it.
2. If you don't setup gmail as exchange and you use imap, your email will not be pushed to your phone.

Yahoo
Pro:
1. It's free
2. Push email works correctly without any exchange work arounds

Con
1. No free email forwarding. You have to pay for the premium account in order automatically forward emails to another email account.

iCloud
Pro
1. It's free, assuming you iPhone backup and email data don't combine to exceed 5GB of storage.
2. You can use it as your apple I'd to buy apps, music, etc.

Con
1. If your iCloud backups and email account go over the 5GB, you have to pay for more storage.



These are just my top pros/cons from being a gmail/yahoo/hotmail/iCloud user. I dropped hotmail long ago when I realized that it didn't support imap.

I originally had Gmail fetch my Verizon emails and send them all to my email on the iPhone4. It worked well for a while, but then Verizon changed their settings. When I went to fix that, things went crazy and I got a deluge of old Vz emails dumped into my mailbox. It got to 90 emails in the time it took me to disable the forwarding in Gmail.

Ultimately, I've switched to iCloud email, contacts and calendar. MUCH simpler and works perfectly. No complaints.
