New to the Mac world and have a MacBook Pro and Mac mini to setup. I have an old canon ip6700d that's still kicking in my network. Works great. The canon site does list some older Mac drivers, but nothing for Yosemite. Any way I can this to work with my Mac stuff?

You should be able to open System Preferences, then Printers & Scanners pane.
Connect your printer to a convenient USB port, and make sure the printer power is on.
Click the (+) at the lower left part of the window. If direct connect (USB) you should see your printer there, so just click Add, and in a few moments you should have access to your printer. You can also go to App Store/Updates, and there should be a driver update for your printer.
And - you can also download the master updater for Canon inkjet printers. I see the IP6700D is one of the dozens that are included with that. Same process after that install - check in the Printers & Scanners pane, where your printer should show up already installed, or click the (+) to add. Most printers are pretty painless to get set up, particularly those that are on THIS list. http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201465

Thanks, it almost worked.....
I have the usb printer connected to my network through an old buffalo link station NAS drive. I set it up as an LP printer. the trick worked with windows, but not with the mac. It sees the printer, but it wont print.
All the other instructions worked, connected the printer via usb, mac detected it and found the drivers, then everything just worked. Ill probably just leave the printer connected to the mac mini full time from now on. Maybe I can get the windows pc's to see it running off the mac mini.
