Hi, folks. I have to use a mac for work and recently had to use VLC for some of my tasks, and I'm having a hard time with things.

TL;DR: How do I see the total time of a video (not remaining time, just its total runtime), and how do I stop videos from auto-closing when they finish?

If I open a video it starts autoplaying. That's great. At the bottom of the screen is a slider that displays how long the video has been playing for. But, the little circle that indicates where in the video play we are is always stuck on the far right. So I can't see how long the video is or how far along in it I am. I also can't 'skip' around the video. If I click the slider it just takes me back to the start.

If I click the "time" to the right of the video, left or right click, nothing happens. If I double click it lets me choose a time to skip to, but since I don't know how long the video is I'm shooting in the dark.

If I enter in a time that's too long, the video closes automatically.

Also, if the video reaches the end of it's play, it closes.

The playback controller in fullscreen shows the total time on the right.

When playing back in window mode you can toggle back and forth between the playlist window and the video using the button with three horizontal lines…on the right of the "stop" button with the square. The playlist window shows the total time.

Thanks for the answers. Are FLV files an exception to this? When I click the button to bring up the playlist, all the files have a duration of 0:00.

Dunno if it helps but i discovered also and open source Mac player called IINA two years ago and havent look back.

Apologies to bump this thread but does anybody else encounter playback issues with IINA 1.2.0 on MacOS 11.4? I've been running IINA without issues and a few days ago I upgraded MacOS to 11.4. Today I've noticed playback issues. Every movie or tv episode that i want to watch (x264 or x265/HEVC) stops playing after 30-120seconds.

I'm running this on a M1 MBP.

No, it works great, but I don't have M1. There was only one issue with streaming video but I fixed that by downloading newer version of youtube-dl via Homebrew.

Check on IINA GitHub page.

Working as it should for me.
