So I have downloaded something off the internet such as the new version of itunes, and it installs and I am running it perfectly. However, there is a .dmg file on my desktop and I am not sure if I am actually supposed to keep said file somewhere on my computer or am I supposed to 'trash' it because its job is now done. I have tons of these files that I have moved to the applications folder and are just sitting there taking up space.

Thanks in Advance For Your Responces

You can dump them.

Only keep those that you may want to back up. Say a specific app you have bought maybe.

The *.dmg is like an *.exe installer file. You download, say, firefox.exe, and run it and it installs Firefox. After that you no longer need firefox.exe. :)
