Hey I just bought a 17" powerbook... what kind of free basic apps do you guys have installed on your macs... like zipping utilities? media players? I dont know where to look or if a mac even needs them?

Your zipping utility is Finder, and you media is iTunes. I have Meteorologist, Menu Meters, TextWrangler, OnyX, Stuffit - Expander, and X-Chat Aqua. Those are all free (and vital, in my opinion) apps. Search around and I am sure that you will be able to find quite a bit more...:)

I use TigerLaunch to have access to all my apps and ByteController for use with iTunes (lets you forward/back/play/pause from anywhere, also free). I also use Tomato Torrent for Bittorrent. All free, all available from versiontracker.com. Just go there and run some searches.

Oh, and I use DVD Backup and Mac The Ripper - both good DVD-ripping progs. Both free too, though DVD Backup doesn't come with all the guilt-inducing warnings. Hell, it made me feel bad for ripping movies (that I owned) for use on my laptop for long trips.

Are there any web browsers that will let you have the page full-screen like you do on windows?
