I absolutely hate the look of Yosemite. As brilliant as he is with hardware, I think Ive has been absolutely horrible for software side. Both iOS7 and Yosemite are plain ugly as far as I'm concerned. It's not 1996 and I have no interest in "flat" design. It didn't work in the monstrosity that is Windows 8 and it won't work for Apple.

Anyway... I plan in buying an iMac next month and prefer to have Mavericks or Mountain Lion installed.

Is that possible? Thanks!

It is only possible the the model you have or are buying originally shipped with an older version. Macs cannot run a version older than what they shipped with.

If you buy any machine on the market now you can run Mavericks. Even most of the machines they will sell after Yosemite is released will still run Mavericks because they won't refresh every machine they sell at that point. Even if it ships with Yosemite if the same model ran Mavericks you can downgrade.

Yeah. You can run old os's on a new mac.

I have virtual machines of windows 8.1, snow leopard server, mac os 9.0.4, system 7, commodore 64 and Apple ][ all running on my new 2014 rmbp, as well as dual booting mavericks 10.9.5 and yosemite dp8.

Those are in virtual machines though.

In a month most iMacs will still come with Mavericks.

I had to boot back to Mavericks on my MBP briefly, and found that I really preferred Yosemite by quite a bit. Spotlight is much nicer, and I like the look of it.

But to each his own....
