I guess it all depends on what 'sort' of programming you are interested in and what level you are at now.

Doubtless there are good websites out there but I don't think you can't beat a good book for learning something! If you specify a preference, eg programming for the Web, Mac applications, graphics etc, then I think people will be able to give you some pointers and recommend a few books.

While some people have taught themselves to program, I highly recommend taking a course. There is just too many ways to do certain things and good programming practice (which is tough to learn from a book) goes a long way.

I agree with taking a course, but not an intro. Teach yourself enough to get into a move advanced class that an intro.

If you have any problems with some terminology/function, that comes in handy.

Thats another one that was on digg a while ago, but i havent had a chance to fully look into yet, but by first glance appears to have enough links/tutorials to learn everything you want.

If you are just starting out, i would suggest using TextEdit to try out some html codes. Or download Xcode, (which is on your installation disc for mac os x, as well as off their website,) and try understanding a hello world in c++.
