Old man here, well 62 and that is old I suppose. :D

Ordered my first smartphone from Apple on Friday, it is an unlocked iPhone 7 Plus. Decent price and the features I need. Saw no need for things like all glass bodies, wireless charging, or Nikon level camera. Still a very nice phone for me I suspect.

I am presently a Verizon customer with a Samsung flip phone and Verizon does not have a 'reasonable' plan for a single smartphone. Would like to use a reseller such as StraightTalk or others I am asking for help / opinions about U.S. resellers and how best to switch my number to a reseller.

Also would like to know about security steps and protecting my phone on the internet.

Thanks to all.

hi Pabbi,

i think your choice of an iPhone 7plus is a great choice.
great features, great value for money, and great timing.

sorry, i don't know about low-cost carriers in the USA so cant answer about that.
but about keeping safe while mobile, i think you should look at investing in a VPN app.
if you do any banking, or even downloading email, over any sort of WiFi connection you put yourself at risk of being spied on. VPN prevents this.
i myself have tried (and paid for) several different VPN apps. not all VPN apps are totally safe to use, either.
the one that i have found that does have an excellent reputation and is great and simple to use is Express VPN.

one other piece of advice that i have found useful is to turn off " Load remote images" (in Settings/Mail).
by doing this, spammers who send you email will not see that you opened their mail,
Turning off Load remote images works by effectively disabling of sending any Read receipts to the sender.

other than that, the other piece of advise is to NEVER click on any link in any email. NEVER. not even a bank you do business with. the only exception ofcourse is when immediately just prior to getting that email you yourself initiated some email to be sent to you and that email is in confirmation of something (such as resetting a password, etc).
other than that NEVER click on any link in any email.

have a great time with your new iPhone.

*by the way, 62 is not old. 62 is the new 42. truely. think different. :)

For a low cost service provider, consider TracFone. Previously used the service with an Android smart phone (which I hated) so I purchased an unlocked refurbished 7 plus (model A1661). TracFone sent a free Sim card and I switched my number and data/call/text credits to the iPhone. The transition was flawless. No contract and I figure I spend less than $50 every three months for cell service. We have good AT&T coverage in my area, so connection is never an issue.
