New to this OSX server business

Hi Guys

You may have seen my previous posts, my mac mini server finally turned up.

All was going swimmingly until i tried to log into the OD, on the workstations when logging in the correct box comes up, when i've put the login and password in the box goes grey for a couple of seconds then the contents reappear and judder, and finally it puts a login / password box back up on screen.

I've checked the dns for errors, but all machines can resolve the address of the server and the OD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Network Homes

Have you showed the OD where the network homes will be stored?
If no network homes are selected for the account in workgroup manager, the clients will behave like you described.

Well, i must be stupid or something, i've now rebuilt this server 4 times.

I've now put an imac and the server on their own bit of cable, DNs is working both the imac and server.

Each time i get the same results.

Have confirmed that the new OD user knows where the home folder is and set it to automount.

When i give admin rights to the account and try logging on to the server console it works

When i try and login on the imac using the account / password that i setup in Workgroup Manager the dialog box shakes and prompts for login & password again.

If i log in with an account local to the mac, i can connect across to the server, it says "connection failed" if i click connect as and put in the OD login and password i get granted access to the server.

Does anyone know what i am doing wrong. Am hoping someone can give me some pointers please.

Feel a bit silly now

Well guys, i do feel such a noob.

My login problem was down to me having the same OD login as the local login on the imac, The long names, i had been logging in with were different but when shortened the conflict obviously kicked in.

Hope my stupidity helps someone else someday.
