Great!

So tell me why the hell the speaker's at the back of it... facing partially towards the windscreen :/

Where would you have them place it? I think the reflection off the window works fine...

If this car kit is $99 or less, I'll get it. If higher, NO WAY. I'll get one of the $35 ones off Apple's website.

Dear TomTom, thanks for the least informational video of your new app.

The speaker should actually be useful on the back if it sort of amplifies sound off the rear mount. I am not sure if that's the case but it's possible. Kind of like this.

When will these morons figure out that when typical people pay out the nose for hardware we're going to want to put a case on it more often than not?

I think its going to be 200 dollars.

Thats CRAZY. No way in hell would I pay $300 ($99 + $200). I already have TomTom, but I'm not paying an extra $200 for my car kit. You can get a really nice standalone for $300.

its $200 in total, dock is $100 - well, this is the current rumour

Why in the hell would TomTom charge so much for the App and then a ton for the car mount? Also it looks like they added an additional GPS chip in the car mount. Am I missing something here?

TomTom came late to the party, underwhelmed us with the first version of the app and haven't provided any transparency with regards to what their intentions are. Meanwhile, Navigon has two versions under their belt, have responded to enhancement requests by building it into the next rev, and has communicated (including screen shots) what those enhancements will look like. Thus, Navigon has earned my business and I'm sure I'm not alone in this thought process.

I bet that handtec sure boosted their site traffic by placing the TT mount up for pre-order before anyone else. Nice business strategy, but I'm sure they weren't thinking about that

The iPhone's GPS receiver is not the best. The chip in the car kit is supposed to create the greater accuracy needed for turn-by-turn navigation (for more on which, see all the threads about poor nav function).

As far as the speaker placement people seem to be questioning: the speaker is on the back of my wife's stand-alone TomTom GPS, too, so...

well today mom, i learned that u can tilt your iphone in landscape mode while using your GPS Tom-Tom app!

-"oh wow!"

:D

-"why is the speaker in the back son?"

-"i don't know!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Who are these people having problems with the GPS in iPhone?

TomTom, CO-Pilot and Navigon, not to mention Google Maps, work just fine in my 3GS, and also in my old 3G.

The holder is still worth getting, but more than £40 and they can stuff it.
