Hello all,
I'm typing this on my new MB Air. This is my 1st mac and I'm slowly learning how to use the system. I'm well known for un-intentionally messing things up then having to figure out how to fix them. As I'm new to the Mac OS, I REALLY don't want to go through that. Does anyone have any tips on the "Do 1st" for a guy sitting here with his first Mac? Also, any "Do 1st" with the MB Air?

Thanks,

Greg

Congrats on your purchase

Probably the best thing to do first is to do a clean reinstall of the os.

I can't agree with this statement - it's asking for trouble.

I've owned 4 Macs, from Mini to MacBook to Powermac, and there was never any reason to re-install the OS on a new machine. Indeed, the Powermac went from Jaguar to Panther to Tiger without a re-install, just upgrades.

The macbook air doesn't have a lot of space, so this would be good to do, and to uninstall some apps that you don't use. Another app to use is monolingual, to uninstall all the unnecessary languages.

It's his *first* Mac. He's got plenty of space. Telling him to re-install the OS and delete a bunch of stuff is like telling someone with their first car to go racing on the track.

The good side of the grass.

I've never reinstalled software on a new machine either but the Air does have a rather small drive capacity. Languages and print drivers for every printer ever created in last three years are not necessary. Same goes for trial office and iwork.

Congratulations, Greg. I'm four weeks out from where you are now. Quite an exciting experience, no? All of the great features that OS X has to offer and the fantastic format that is the MBA!

Enjoy. All of my mistakes - eer, well, so far - have been reversible.

same deal here...biz guy who picked up his first Mac via the Air. Loving it!

the biggest problem I have had is getting my sales meetings back on track after pulling out the Air in the middle of a presentation. Everyone loves the thing and only wants to talk about it!
