new unibody mac mini as main pc on 42" lcd, will it work?

Hey guys,
what's up?
So here's the thing...I've been a lifelong pc user and now I'm switching over to a Mac. I currently have a HP Pavilion core 2 duo 4g ram (which is 3yrs old and pretty tired and slow )and I plan on getting a 15 core i5 macbook pro over the next 5 or 6 months.
My question is, with the new mac mini with the upgrade specs and HDMI I was wondering if It would work well as a main pc/media center if hooked up to my 42" full HD lcd LG?
I'd use it as a main pc as I'm selling my current laptop so I'd need to use it for all kinds of stuff such as surfing the web, e-mail, IM and other stuff...nothing heavy like gaming and video editing...and occasionally watching some HD content...
I've read in a few threads here in the forum that people have been having problems with the screen resolution and all...will this occur with this new mac mini with hdmi?
Will it be bearable as an everyday computer? using a wireless keyboard and mouse from my couch

It'll work fine, you may have to play with overscan to fit the picture but that's not hard

OK so I am sending this on my new mac mini from my living room with it attached to my Pioneer 60" HD Plasma with HDMI connector. I use mine about like you and it is great. I use the command + to zoom certain things in from time to time since I am sitting a good 15 feet from the screen and also set up my new mouse to use Control + finger forward to zoom in, too.

Since TV ads are so darn long now I can do an email during each commercial break and then just toggle back to the live TV at will.

I decided to get the fastest "stock" Mini available so I got 8GB ram with the 500GB HD on the 2.66. It is gorgeous setting next to my Apple TV which I hardly use now. Who needs it.

Some are saying it might go to an i5 or i7 in the future but I did not want to wait any longer. I am very pleased with how it functions for my needs.

I have my new 2010 mac mini server connected to my 40" plasma tv and although I use it mostly as a media center, I have done photo and video editing as well as email and web browsing with it.

I had to fiddle with the resolution a bit to get it the way I like it but basically it works great. I sometimes use a wireless keyboard and mouse and sometimes use screen sharing from my macbook pro, and use the trackpad and keyboard on my macbook pro.

you'll have no problems with it, only issue that you'll run into using a TV is that the text/cursor can be a little small sometimes, but with ctrl+scroll to zoom you'll be fine. i'm running a last gen mac mini to my 40" lcd as my primary computer and it's great as my primary use is the same as what you have in mind. pretty nice to be able to toggle between live tv/computer/game console while sitting on the couch/laying in bed. *for the lazy folks *

Actually, the unibody Mac Mini with it's HDMI port is designed to serve that specific use. Make sure you order the aluminum remote to easily control FrontRow.
If you're Italy-based, I'd suggest to get an EyeTV DVB-T stick for tivù if your region already had the switch-off or an EyeTV Sat with a SmarCam tivùsat to record and watch TV shows.
