Please forgive this lame question, but I am having an issue since I upgraded to El Cap from Yosemite on my 2012 Mac Mini. The issue is with Photoshop CC 2015.5. It crashes when opening a RAW image from ACR.

I created a new user account in El Cap and it seems to work properly from that account. Is there a easy way to just use that new account and have all my documents and such accessible from that new account? And possibly just remove the old account. Does this seem the most logical and simplest thing to do?

Thanks

It sounds like you have something running in the first account that is causing a conflict.

Just as a test, try holding the shift key at boot to the old account to boot to safe mode. See if that fixes it. Safe mode stops all launch and startup items from running.

If that fixes it, download the app Etrecheck and run the app from both accounts. It will create a report showing all launch and startup items in each account. Save the report and compare the two to see what is running in one account and not the other, then start removing those items to narrow it down.

Thanks for the reply. I tried safe mode and PS seemed to run ok. But the openGL was greyed out in preferences.

I ran the Etrecheck and compared but I really couldn't make much out of it. There were differences in some of the results.

I may try to uninstall PS and try again. Is there a way to delete every single thing that PS put on my computer so I can start completely fresh?

I noticed since upgrading to Capitan it takes a lot longer to restart and shutdown. I have a SSD for all apps and have my home folder on a HDD.

If I do a fresh install of Capitan can I use Migration assistant to put my programs back on it from a external backup I have?

Re: Mac uninstallers: there are some out there that do deep dives to track down config files, plists, etc. I have one, but not near Mac right now, so can't provide specific name.

Worse comes to worse: can do following, and similar, to track down pieces out there. Mac names track close to vendor/app name:

Code:
cd ~/Library
find . -type f -name 'com.adobe*'
cd /Library
find . -type f -name 'com.adobe*'

Can probably do similar via Spotlight search, depending on settings.

Should have a list of things to delete.

Then can do clean re-install of Photoshop.

You could post the Etrecheck reports here for us to take a look if you like. The reports are anonymized.

Are both the old and new accounts on the HDD?

If you clean install, then use Migration Assistant, any launch or startup items that are causing this would be reinstalled.

Like I said, the fact it works fine in safe mode is a huge clue that it is a startup item running in one account and not the other.

I don't see anything running in one that is not running in the other, so I am a bit stumped. Are both accounts on the primary drive?

There are a bunch of these crash reports in the non-working account. If you look in those, do they offer any clues.

Yes both are on the primary drive. I'll look at the crash reports and see if i can make out anything.

Thanks
