File sharing

Let's hope the file-sharing works in this version.

Receiving files but not being able to send then is damn frustrating. It's like sitting in front of a one-way mirror with PC users pointing and laughing at your Mac. Sheesh.

Anyone know what ports to keep open (if any at all) and/or how to enable the function while using a router?

You will need an MSN (Hotmail) account. As far as I know anyway.

I hope it gets rid of that lag I get when typing messages.

But it's microsoft, so probably more bloatware from the bloatware experts.

It looks nice, just like the previous 3.0 version. Opening you Hotmail Mail from the client is not possible if your chosen browser is Safari, since Safari says it takes too many redirects to open the mail page.

This is just a precursor to the upcoming MSN for Mac OS X which is on the way.

If you don't have a hotmail account, you'll need to sign up for a .NET passport.

Does anyone have any idea when we might be seeing MSN for OS X? According to Microsoft, it is "Coming soon to a desktop near you", but it was originally supposed to come out at the last expo.

Version 3.5 is out now

i think its just come out today. its not that much different apart from you can log messages automatically if you like. and you can organise your contacts, if you want to do that (i don't). don't know what else is new though. i'm still waiting for video and voice capability of supporting a webcam and that time lag of writing to go.

mac messenger 2

I just downloaded a tiny-sized app for a chat client that can use msn, its great. i'm going to try it for a bit. its really nice and fast, and the developers seem more keen than microsoft for developing it more swiftly! its also free from all those annoying msn ads at the bottom of the contact list. download it from http://www.sparktech.tk/ and have a play - you might just prefer it! :D

I cant' see why anyone would want to go back to using such an archaeic (forgive my misspelling) ..but MSN Messenger seems alot nicer ... just my opinion.

I was able to send files to PC users on 3.0

BUt 3.5 is very nice in my book, My PC using apt mates are jealous of its cooooool translucencys. I only wish I could send files through the Airport to outside users, outside the network like AIM and iChat let you, ahhh well. If I have anything I need to send somewhere, I upload it to my site, or flick on the FTP server.

what i want to know is when we're goingh to see webcam messaging in it like its pc counterpart, can't even do voice messaging!

lets hope that the new ichat has vid/voice and .net architecture aswell.

v3 had problems sending files to pc users. it had to do with anyone who used the firewall. with it on and the MSN ports open, it was still impossible to send files.

i have not tried v3.5 (i got it running, but noone else yet is online) but if it works - halleluyah.

I couldn't send files and I didn't have a firewall. M$ admitted it on their site a while back, it has taken them quite a few months to fix it up though.

...although it does seem to struggle with .me.uk domains - my verification email never turned up for my account despite multiple requests for it and re-registering severa; times! my works fine.
